my nand back up says it's not for my wii

I was having problems with my wi shop channel after updating to 4.1E from 3.4E, then found a way to get it to work, But... when it worked the ios61 and the channel update I used to get it to work stopped my backup and usb channels from working. So what I did was follow Larry's 4.1 softmod guide to get it all back working again. Of course the shop channels doesn't work again, but I don't care anymore... I'm over it. Anyway while my backup and usb channels weren't working I thought maybe I could use my nand backup (boot2 Hackmii) to get back to before the channeland ios61 update I done earlier (had done a fresh nand backup just before I updated the shop channel. It said my "nand backup wasn't for my wii"
So my question is... Do the backups only work if you have a type of brick or should they work any time you want?

I bricked my wii a few weeks ago and had the same problem with recovering, turns out there's a bug in Bootmii beta3, It doesn't recognise its own backups.

I fixed the problem using the info on this page:

(I used an hex editor, the other solution did not work for me)
