Sony speaks out about PSPgo retail concerns

According to an interview with GamesIndustry.biz, Sony has played down any "concerns" of certain retailers not selling the newly launched PSPgo (See: Here and here), and confided that most retailers are "really quite fine with it".

I like how the PSP Go looks and all but I really don't think it'll sell well.
I can buy a PSP 3000 for $170 + a 16GB MS Pro Duo for around $70. Total price is $240
I can buy a PSP Go with No UMD Drive and 16GB Internal flash memory for $250.
I'd rather get the PSP 3000. I like the idea of having hard copies of games and if I really want to purchase them via PSN, I still can on the PSP-3000.
I see no reason to get the PSP-Go when the iTouch is around the same price.

Why should retailers want to support sales of the unit when they don't get any part of the sales of downloadable games?
The last poll of PSP users I saw said that around 70% aren't at all interested in a PSP Go. I think I'd certainly want a normal PSP too.

IMO the greatest issue is the price, if you go to a shop to buy a psp go you'll end up either with a PS3 Slim or with a PSP 3000.
With plus 50, you get a PS3, with minus 100 you get a 3000 that more or less does everything that PSP GO offers.
What would you buy?
Something else, people that already have a psp and for some reason they have broken their PSP, what are they going to do?
The new one and re-buy all their games from PSS and not be able to use any spare parts from the broken one.
or
buy a 3000 and end up with all their UMD games playable, plus the staff from the broken one, like Memory card, the recharger and a spare battery.
The PSP GO IMO is a beuaty but worthless, something like a blond bimbo. sexy but.... 1+1=????? .... condom?

what i find funny id people who are complaining about their "umds" when MOST people (esp on this site) have pirated thier PSPs and are using a MS.
and what they dont realise is that this product is not marketed towards them. its marketed towards the PMP crowd.

Remember the many console that have been released, and when another is released, the back up infrastructure move towards the new product. What happens when this company brings out a better hand-held console, and you can no longer get to download paid games? $$ of something you can't get new games for. Built in obsolescence.

I'm sure there will be a hack for it eventually... The PSP scene is much more lively then the PS3 scene, sadly :(

However much I want to see a hack on the PS3, I kinda don't want to. I don't want to have 500GB hard drives in the system with 25GB games installed. I can never actually see game rips working properly since a bluray drive is 2x and a hard drive is much faster.

Some of the PSP-3000s have the unhackable motherboards though no? So if anything a pirate would be most interested in buying a used PSP-2000 off ebay.
For pirates, agree that Ithe UMD issue is irrelevant. But if you actually did buy PSP UMDs (and yes these people exist. lol), you are screwed if you go with PSP Go. Hence why I think removing the UMD was a mistake. It's not fair to legit PSP owners. You supported Sony and the third-party developers by buying the games and now those games are useless on a PSP Go? A slap in the face by Sony. Legit users deserve better than that.

All the games I play are on MS are only ripped because they load faster. Burnout Legends loads a whole lot faster on the MS than it does on UMD. Then also I can take more games with me as I go. On a 4GB MS, I can fit about 6 games compressed in CSO.
Believe it or not, I use my PSP mainly for PS1 gaming on the go. I don't want to rebuy all my 93 (Yes I counted) PS1 games to play on the PSP when I can do it myself. I don't care about having the manual on PSP, I know how to play these games.
CTR on the PSP is my favorite game. PSN doesn't have it yet.
