Hello, I'm interested in getting a headset. But I was wondering if when using the headset does the game audio only come out the headset and into my ear or does the game audio still come out the speakers? I basically just want to use the headset as a microphone but keep the game play audio coming out the surround sound speakers.... So, can this be done?

That is how it works. Game audio from speakers. Other peoples voice from headset. If you dont have a head set, peoples voice will come from speakers.

Not sure. COD4 is the only game that we realy play online. If the Headset is turned on then other's voices come over the headset. If the headset is not turned on then other's voices come over the speakers. Not sure how it works with other online games. I dont recall there being an option. Like i said, i have 30+ games but COD4 is the only game that i play online and use the headset with.

i'm pretty sure in the microphone options you can set it to make the voices come out of the speakers when your microphone is on

Yes you can. You can set it up in any of these ways ~

1) BT Headset for mic & voice from players via BT Headset
2) BT Headset for mic & voice from players via TV/Stereo
3) PS Eye for mic & voice from players via BT Headset (only 1 not tested but should still work)
4) PS Eye for mic & voice from players via TV/Stereo

Thanks for that info Oner. My kids lost one BT headset and broke the other. (Butt Woopings start at 6:30) . Sounds like another good reason to get the Eye. I may wait to get the Eye when the Motion control comes out. Probably come in a set.

Oner, now you've given me more questions... With the eye's mic, wouldn't it pick up the rooms sound coming out the speakers and feed it back to the other users online? Because if I were to get the eye it would be by the tv and or ps3 which is about fifteen feet away from the couches. So having a surround sound, wouldn't the eye pick up the games sounds confusing it for my voice creating an echo of the games fx to the other users I'd be playing with/against? I mean how would the eye know the difference between the sounds coming out the speakers verses the sounds coming out my mouth? That's why I was interested in the bt headset because I figured it'd being closest to my mouth could tune out the background noise... What's your experience, what do you think?

It happens but the PS Eye has 4 mics and noise canceling technology that minimizes it (unless you got it right next to a speaker and blast it). This is from the Wiki ~

Quote:
Microphone

The PlayStation Eye features a built-in four-capsule[1] microphone array, with which the PlayStation 3 can employ[10] technologies for multi-directional voice location tracking, echo cancellation, and background noise suppression. This allows the peripheral to be used for speech recognition and audio chat in noisy environments without the use of a headset.[1] The PlayStation Eye microphone array operates with each channel processing 16-bit samples at a sampling rate of 48 kilohertz, and a signal-to-noise ratio of 90 decibels.[1]

the playstation eye works well but you do need to keep it away from your speakers. it will also pick up other people and noises in the room. sonys BT mic works very well all my friends are getting them. the nice thing about them is you can charge them in the stand they come with and still use them as a mic and have the audio out set to your tv when it is charging so you have no down time

Well my situation would be that since I have surround sound speakers sometimes (before it gets to late) I like to have'em on and the room gets filled with noise from the speakers behind me and the ones by the tv... So, I really love the idea of the eye because that to me seems like a three in one deal and it's cheaper then simply getting the bt headset. But I don't wanna buy the eye and then the eye mistake the back speaker noise for me and then drown me out causing me to have to scream in order for my voice to be singled out from all the gun shots, or other voices in the game. So what do yous think? Would the eye really do a good job picking my voice sound over the other sounds that'd be in the room (probably even louder)?

The BT Headset would probably be your best bet but if you are playing it as loud as I am understanding then it will most likely still have the issue...albeit less than if you used the PSEye.

having both the eye and the BT i think you will have a problem with both with how loud you seem to like your sound.
