So I decided to mod my Xbox Elite which naturally came with a Hitachi 79. This is the first time I have tried modding an xbox, I thought it would be easier then what it has been so far.
To give you a run down, I am running Windows Vista 32 bit, I purchased a via 6421 pci sata card and have tried using JF v1.65 & v1.66. My issue is this, I see the drive in JF using port I/O, I don't see the drive assigned with a letter in "My Computer" or in the top right hand of JF. I am able to get the drive into Mode B and get it unlocked with the 79 unlock disc, but still don't see it as a drive, but I have read that you can still flash it without seeing it. Now I have heard with JF v1.65 you don't need to do "Dump Drive", you can go right to "Flash Ixtreme", which I did, it starts the process and I see this in my log:
Dumping f/w of Hitachi 0078/0079 by Ram Upload Method over Port IO
Ram Upload Dump Failed
Can someone please help this noob that just wants to enjoy my 360 to its full potential?
Have you removed the VIA driver? If so, you would need to restore it. With Vista, when you original installed the card, it should have installed a driver for you (vsmraid.sys). Since you are using PortIO, that is why I ask. It is easier (for me at least) to use WinAPI to get the job done. If you go to your Device Manager and see a yellow exclamation mark next to your VIA card, right click on it and update software. You would want to use the "Update Software Online" option.
I will definately try that out, reinstalling the drivers that is? Anything else I can try that anyone can suggest? At work right now so I will have to wait to try when I get home and will post if it works.
