OK, here's the scenario. I have files on my PC, in the Shared Folder which my wife and I can easily transfer to out Macbooks. Life is grand. But I was still stuck in the USB transfer method for getting files on to the PS3. So I finally decided to look up my options for wireless sharing. I figured I could just access that same Shared Folder but I could not find any instructions. All I keep finding are the server options. So I tried the WMP Media Sharing option and it works. The only problem is that I hate using WMP. I'd really prefer to just access my Shared Folder. Please advise.

I will consider that as a last resort. But the reason I'd rather not now is cause like WMP I will have to actually start it when I want to use it. Unless of course I have it Auto-start. But then that's another program that slows down an already ridiculously long start up time. I know I've just been pampered by my Mac but I'd really prefer access to the folder like I have it now.

hey {TKO}, another option to WMP is Nero MediaHome. It has the option to share individual folders which you select. Unfortunately, the program has to be actively running like WMP and other media servers but I am afraid that there is no real alternative to do what you want to do at the moment.
you do not need wmp open i have wmp 11 and i do not have it running at all when i want to watch movies you have to give it access to certain folders say the items you want to share are on your my music folder on c drive wich is already set like that in wmp but you can add other folders to it to watch where you store media....here is how i set it up go to tools>options>network then the little section that says sharing is a tab that says configure sharing click that button then it will bring up some devices and the ps3 needs to be on i belive but wouldnt hurt for it to be on then click the box share media too and highlight the unknown device (ps3) then you can customize it to share what in the settings next go to wmp tools>options>network monitor folders section then add the folders where your media is shared as this is the quickest way to share folder on the netwrok with outc copying to disk or having to use up bandwith to stream it to your ps3.
I tested this exact scenario to see if WMP would have to be on. I set up the folders accordingly as well. But when I shut down WMP and went to my living room, the PS3 said something like not available or something. I came back and started WMP, went back to the PS3 and the media came up.
Like I said, if I cannot access the Shared Folder like i do from my Macbook, then I'll stick with WMP. I don't like it but it works pretty well. All I have to do is turn on my computer, sit here for a few minutes, then turn on WMP, and I can go access my media from the PS3.
Thank you for all your responses so far guys. This is why I love Afterdawn.

If you are going to sit there for the start up of Windows and have to manually start WMP then you might as well use a dedicated media server! It gives you SOOO much more capabilities including transcoding movies on the fly that the PS3 cannot play which WMP cannot do either! I would suggest TVersity over PS3 Media Server for your needs but either way they are BOTH great apps!
I am running WIndows XP on my PC, WMP11, and the PS3 is version 3.01. I installed some updates about two days ago so it is current.
To the other responses, thank you. But like I said, if the server thing is gonna be my only option I might stick with WMP as long as it doesn't cheese me off. But what i mainly want to is to gain access directly to my Shared Folders via the network. I'm pretty sure it should be possible, but then again if I was that smart, I'd've figured it out by now. LOL
