Man arrested for brandishing gun, threatens his iPhone

article published on 4 October, 2009

In one of what has to be one of the funniest tech related articles of the week, Donald Goodrich of Ohio was arrested on Friday for brandishing a gun at his local Apple Store, while threatening to shoot his iPhone because it was not working. Goodrich walked into the store in Cincinnati, Ohio, walked up to the Genius Bar, and began yelling "I'm so mad, I could pop a 9mm at [my iPhone]." ... [ read the full article ]

When he revealed the weapon, the Apple Store employee believed that "the offender will cause serious physical harm." In other words, he felt threatened, and threatening someone is against the law.
Wow..the bigger doofus was the punk who called the cops. Probably wets his panties whenever he sees someone buy ammo at a store. If he had done that to me, I'd definitely be looking for some payback after paying whatever fine/time I had to do.

How much more of a douch can you be? If somebody has a gun, in a store, and is holding it out while yelling, then there is a very good chance someone is going to get hurt or killed.

What this person did was unacceptable & flagrant. If he lived in an open carry state then I would guess that in a court of law it COULD be a "Grey Area" that he MAY be able to argue (even if in poor judgement). But if not, and he has the right + license to carry concealed then there is absolutely no reason for him to do something so reckless & stupid.

I have carried concealed with my G19C for the past 5+ years EVERY time I leave my house and only carry because I exercise my right to do so as well as to protect myself & loved ones IF it ever came to a situation that warranted it...but to brandish a gun over an iPhone....just shows/proves he is incapable of the responsibility nor has the mental ability to own a firearm.

He never even pulled out the gun...he just lifted his shirt to show it...I though you at least had to touch the gun for it to be "brandishing a weapon".

By that standard, cops are always brandishing their guns. I feel menaced.

Can I call the cops on the cops for menacing me by brandishing their guns?

The united states is a strange place to me. Guns galore. And you can have a permit as an ordinary citizen to carry a concealed weapon. I know its for protection for yourself and your loved ones. But how in the hell did you get to this sad state of affairs.

Some people just fall thru the cracks and pull this sort of thing. Why is it when something like this happens in the U.S., the world thinks,"OMG they are crazy over there!" What about when your soccer team loses? What do you do? Start riots. Oh and yes I did say soccer because that is what it is called here in the U.S.

you have the right to own a firearm licensed or not. its called the Second Amendment and rest assured our government is trying its hardest to strike that Amendment off the face of this world.

in any case you shouldn't show off a firearm. its called concealed carry for a reason (Concealed as to Hide Away). the only people that are aloud to carry a gun in open are a Uniformed Police Officer and an active Militant of the said county.

he should have his concealed license revoked for this little stunt not to harm him or take away his rights but to protect him from those evil Gun Carrying store owners. i know a few that would have scattered him all over the ipod display case if he did that in there store.

The people working at the counter over-reacted probably a recent immigrant who doesn't know our customs. If anything they should have arrested the Iphone for giving the man such problems. He was not brandishing a gun. Brandish = verb, to wave around in a threatening manner. Everyone is overlooking the bigger problem here, "the overpriced iphone poor performance". The "gun" was just an innocent bystander in this whole fiasco, hopefully it wasn't too traumatized.

It's either Ohio's issuing permits to all comers, or the police state of Kommiefornia, where movie stars, rock musicians get permits. The rich people, who contribute $$$ to sheriffs' election campaigns are often rewarded with a license to carry a loaded gun. Your life isn't worth s--- if you aren't famous or wealthy!

And most of those guns are imported from countries; where hypocritical and corrupt politicians have disarmed their own populations! Hey Europe and Japan keep your damned guns. Any firearm, which is not stamped "Made in the USA" should be taken off the market. It's gotten to a point, where too many law enforcement agencies are buying imported handguns.

Any resident of the former Warsaw Pact nations, who wants to own a surplus KGB Makarov pistol: we got them too.

you've obviously never been to a football match and experienced the passion that the fans show to each other then, especially in a derby game the atmosphere in the stadium is emense.

maybe I should have worded it a little different. The whole world is in a sad state of afairs when you have to carry a firearm around with you. Why in the hell has it got to this stage. Not so long ago over the border in Belgium you could show a drivers licence and buy a firearm. Not so easy to do here in holland but then again after a few puffs we could not be bothered shooting anyone:P Its more like hey give me your money and your watch. Here man have a puff on this. Ok. Right man am sorry keep your money and watch as long as I can keep the rest of this jo**t. Ok keep it. See you later man. Yeah see you.Lol
So yeah the next time you go into the gun shop the owner should sell you some puff instead. Hey man got any new guns? no man but got this new puff have a go.

thats definitely the most absurd argument i ever heard/read.
the whole world but america may play football. and yes i said football cause thats what the world calls it. but the only country i know of that is pretty much crazy over it is the UK. and while i still think its stupid that they have organized fights over football matches and in game riots you would be hard pressed to find guns involved, and i think a gunshot wound is far worse than a beating wouldnt you?(retorical, not sure if your smart enough to get that). its not like in america that you practically have "the right to bear arms"
america is nice to live in cuz of the money you can make and the quality of life youd have if you made it but for a normal person that comes from a country that you have strict rules about carrying a gun (i.e registering having periodical refreshment sessions at the range. aim checks etc) to come to america where there are cases of gangmembers in schools and 16 year olds carrying unchecked guns it seems not worth the risks at the least and insane in the extreme.
keep saying god bless america..you sure need it

What seems to be forgotten here is WHY we have our Second Amendment Rights. To keep our government in check IF necessary, something our fore fathers decreed. Hell, Thomas Jefferson once said

Quote:
"Those who hammer their guns into plows will plow for those who do not"

And I'll be damned if I don't support ALL of our rights as Americans. Especially so when certain Americans like to pick and choose which ones they want to support, while other people from other countries do nothing but criticize our laws....actually this is getting way off topic but I have to add that I agree with you DXR88 but it seems that on the State level, is where you get the most opposition and violations of our rights. Just look at NY & Cali alone where you cannot own a handgun unless you got "pull". Hopefully the ongoing Heller vs DC Supreme Court Ruling/Overturn will make it's way through other States that believe "gun laws & restrictions" deters CRIMINALS in some BS way, when they obviously don't. They only trample & violate our rights by hampering the law abiding "Everyday Joe" NON-Criminals (well at least non violent LoL) like you and me.

Right on!

Here in California, any adult without a criminal record can buy and own a handgun, rifle, or shotgun.

For handguns, there is a 15-day waiting period and a background check. After that, there is no registration requirement. (I'm not sure about rifles & shotguns, but I think there are fewer restrictions.) It is practically impossible to gat a concealed carry permit. I'm not sure about open carry, but apparently it's only allowed if the gun is unloaded.

We do have too much crime here in the USA, but I don't know anyone who's been shot or even threatened with a gun. We have very few home burglaries at night when (possibly armed) homeowners are at home. Most burgluries occur during the day when nobody's home.

In (U.S) states where concealed carry laws have been loosen-up (i.e. Florida), crime has gone down. In the USA, crime is generally higher in places where gun ownership is highly restricted. In high-crime cities like New York City and Chicago, the criminals ignore the gun laws and the law-abiding unarmed citizens are less able to protect themselves.

I've been to plenty of football games and not one person started a riot during any of the games I attended. I agree with you on the passion part but not the part where games are stopped because of fighting fans. That is just ridiculous.

This could have happened anywhere in the world. It just takes a person that is not stable to do what this fool did. He is not capable of owning an iphone nor a handgun. The iphone was a catalyst for what this guy did. I just hope he gets help where ever he ends up.

Sadly, the government has made laws to prevent this threat by banning automatic weapons for civilians (at least for civilians that are not rich). The military is well trained, brainwashed, and heavily armed with everything they could want. An uprising of a majority of the people could easily be put down by a military controled by a president that rigged an election.

BTW...not all US citizens are so agressive with firearms as this guy was. He is clearly not very inteligent...a fact shown by his purchase from Apple.

I get the retorical question thing you said. You make it seem like every 16yr old is carrying a concealed gun just waiting to gang bang which is not the case. Its mainly the bad news that makes the news. Don't you agree? The stereotype has got to stop but never will. Every country, every city, and every person in this world has a target on their back(Not for shooting. Did you get that or are you not smart enough to get it?). I get stereotyped all the time because I'm an American. I love America. You may not but I do. God bless America, God bless you and God bless the world.

All those dangerous and scared people out there who believe that carrying deadly weapon makes them safer REALLY scare me! Somehow I have managed to make it SAFELY to 62 years old w/o having to carry, brandish or use a fire arm against ANYONE.
This story clearly shows why people SHOULD NOT be allowed to carry a weapon, concealed or otherwise. What LUNACY my fellow Americans show to the world like little school children with their play guns! Grow up! 50,000 people DIE each year in this crazed country because of massive fire arms out there....NO ONE IS SAFER because of it.
