Yeah, I know these threads are out there, and yes I searched them. I still haven't found the answer to the simplest question: What happens if I update from the retail disk?" Does it install 4.2 or just a small update? Will it kill HBC? Will it tear a rip in the space-time continuum? Thanks!

BTW: my system is at 4.0 hard-mod.

When I threw in the iso that I made, the update showed up instead of GH5 icon. I hit update and nothing was done to my firmware. I've stopped trying to get GH5 to run and all my other games will run (burned).

This was done on a 4.1 with softmod, no retail disc but I assume it was the same update as retail. Something that allowed GH5 to dl more songs I read. Hope that helps.

So I updated through the retail Game Hero V disk, yeah that's how badly I want to play it. It took a whopping 15 secs to run the update, and it rebooted the system. HBC still works as to the wads I had installed. System is on the same firmware.

guitar hero was released before the 4.2 update, so it would have never updated your system to 4.2, it would have just installed the wads needed.
