Got the GPU reflowed professionally, it did have the unknown error 0102, when I went to pick it up and tried it I got 3 rings straight away (so he didnt charge me). Once I got the heatsinks bolted on with new silver I found that error cleared then i got 0001 (power supply). If I tightened or loosened the screws on the heatsink the error code would change from 0001 to 0020 which was interesting. I have tried isolating the CPU and keeping that cooled while letting the gpu overheat but that hasn't helped. Is it possible there is a bridged connection under the gpu now? and If so I guess there is not much that can be done without removing it and reballing right?

What version motherboard is it?

I would guess you have your heatsinks on too tight. If i were you i would take the heatsinks off and make sure you have just the right amount of thermal paste. Then when you go to put the heatsinks on make sure they are all finger tight. Then you can turn them a little more but don't make them too tight. The xbox usually throws a 0020 code when you tighten the gpu so tight it comes in contact with the components on the top of the chip.

Also remember if it's a xenon board you need to sand down the standoffs to make the board level.

Its a xenon board. I took the heatsink off and found I had done something dumb, I had put a metal then fibre then another metal on one of the screws, so it was making contact with the mobo. I cleaned and polished the gpu, put new silver on again and screwed it back down. (did the same witht he cpu) still getting 0020. I have loosened it to the point where I can lift the heatsink up off the chip and boot it and I still get the same error. using a very thin layer of silver and scraping it flat.. I was running one of the fans direct off a 12v supply on the motherboard for a while before it ringed, could that maybe be a cause?

It has nothing do to with the fans, it could have something to do with the board flexing. But really 0020 is caused by overtightening. Which xclamp replacement method did you use? Did you sand down the standoffs yet?

why would you reflow and still use the xclamp fix? That's retarded. Put the orginials back on!

after a reflow I always apply the xclamp fix as well. I cant stand the shitty MS x clamps. I would rather put my hardware in there and know its solid. I have reflowed over 250 boards on my t862++ so far.

??? well you know it's not the xclamps that cause the problem then, it's the solder. I have reflowed 1000's of boards and never used screws to put it back together. All the xclamp fix does if flex the motherboard.

thanks for the replies all, firstly, yes I have leveled the case, however I haven't put the board back in its case I have been testing on the work bench so there hasn't been any re-bending of the board.

I use the i-hacked method for xclamp fix, had about 10 successes so far, this is my first death. I have xclamps i could put back on but i doubt it will fix the issue, I will try some extra washers between the heatsink and the motherboard see if that helps but Like I said before I have had it so loose that I have lifted it slightly up from the chip and still got the same error.
