Problems flashing Hitachi drive?

Hi guys i am out of ideas to try with this bloody drive!

I have spent 2 days and countless hours reading tuts and goggling till my fingers are sore....

So far I have tried burning the slax 2.1 image to disk but it comes up with errors when it boots, i have also tried getting it to boot from usb and although this worked for slax 6.1.2 i could not get 2.1 to work from a usb drive.

Becuase of slax not working i resorted to the two wire trick to put the drive into b-mode, This seemed to work as the drive opened itself and the green light slayed flashing. however windows xp/vista would not recognize the drive. The drive did not take more than one press on the eject button to open and close so i guess the drive was not in b-mode. I tried this repeatedly whilst playing with my bios settings and although the drive is shown in my bios it still would not show up in windows.

I also tried MySLAX creator to place the 2.2 image on a usb drive but didnt have much luck there either.

The drive is 78fk
I am using onboard sata connection and my mobo chipset is Intel p45, however i dont know where to check for compatibility issues.

Please help me, this is my first time flashing and i have 3 hitachi drive that need doing

I just tried slax again and received errors such as..

Fatal error occurred, Live data not found. You are maybe using an unsupported boot device and then goes on to say that i should copy the file to my hard drive.


also when its doing its thing i notice that it says ATA1 slow to respond please be patient. The it says something like soft reset, soft reset failed and the same for ATA2.

I am about to try the old slax to see if this works but please help or send me in the right direction...

after all that all i had to do is use jungle flasher to put the drive in b-mode... :}

just needed to install the portIO32.dll and problem solved


All i need to know now is, am i limited to what backup games i can play on ixtreme 1.51??
