Is there any type of DVD that, when copied leaves a certain message or something on the original that lets the owner know that it has been copied?

Once a DVD is made, nothing can be written to it. So, no, there's nothing like that. What have you been doing? Taking your friend's dvds and copying them without his knowledge? Renting movies, and copying them? They are definitely not your DVDs, considering the way you worded your question.

No, I don't take other people's DVD's and I certainly don't rent them and copy them, I just wanted to make sure I wouldn't harm my own collection when I was backing them up. I am also interested in the security of DVD's, take renting for example, besides the fact that it is immoral and illegal, what is to stop someone from copying a rented DVD? I know that the idea of disposable DVDs has been looked over, and personally I think it is a great idea. I do not sanction the theft of movies, or music for that matter, because the only people it hurts in the end is the consumers because less money is made on the DVD and therefore prices must go up.
