I have a NTSC 3.3u Wii, d2Pro9, HBC, rev14, etc. The newer games just don't want to work for me no matter what I do. I've read countless forums and to no avail. The main games I can't get to work are Guitar Hero 5, Madden 10, and Madworld. I've tried Neogamma, loaded them on USB HDD, install IOSes, and nothing but black screens or disc read errors.

Is this all because I'm still at 3.3u? Some people tell me to update and some say it's not worth it. So I put the question out there: Would updating to a more recent firmware cure my ails (not 4.2 obviously!)?

Thanks guys!

The reason why certain games arent working is it requires newer cios to run them. You are on 3.3u still and have older cios so you cant run those game. UPdate your cios and u should be able to run all games up to date.

If you are going to update i suggest following larrys guide to update to 4.1. It should work for you since you are still at 3.3u. And its safe to do so. Just dont go to 4.2 unless you know how to fix it like the pros do.

Thanks, I'll give that a try. So, if I upgrade to 4.1 from 3.3, my homebrew should stay intact or do I have to reinstall homebrew using a different method other than the Twilight Hack? Thanks for your help!

Google Waninkoko 4.1 Firmware Updater and run that to update to 4.1 firmware with all homebrew still intact.

But this probably will not fix your issue. More then likely you probably have some IOS (not cIOS) missing that the games need in order to run.

I would recommend installing the following IOS...

IOS37 - Used mostly by music games.
IOS38 - Used by some modern titles.
IOS53 - Used by some modern titles and channels.
IOS55 - Used by some modern titles and channels.

Do a Google search or use NUS to download them. You could also use DOP-IOS to install and patch them.

Thanks, Larry, I'll give it a shot. Just to clarify, I should use Waninkoko's 4.1 software and not anything from your guide that Drakoniss suggested above?

There has been so much happen in the last week since 4.2 update I haven't really had time to redo my guide.

Use Waninkoko's 4.1 updater to update if you want to update to 4.1 firmware. You actually don't need to update if you just install those IOS that could be missing. Updating using Nintendo's updater in settings will update you to 4.2 firmware. I would recomend not going to 4.2 firmware yet.

Awesome! I installed the cIOS that you recommended. Now when I put the discs in (i.e. Madworld, Madden 10, or Guitar Hero 5) it asks for a System Update instead of going to an error, which is a definite improvement. I still cannot get them to loan using Neogamma or from my USB Loader. Any suggetions? Is it safe to update off of the discs?
Thanks again for all of your help, you know your stuff better than anyone!

Sorry, I meant IOS, not cIOS.

Go to the softmod guide I have in my sig and follow the DOP-IOS part of the guide.

I would also use the Waninkoko 4.1 firmware updater if you haven't yet (do that before doing the DOP-IOS section).

I tried upgrading to 4.1 using Waninkoko's installer, but it gives me an error every time. I've read on a couple other threads that others with 3.3 had the same trouble. However, it sounds like upgrading to 4.0 first, then to 4.1 should work out. Is this recommended? I read mixed results. What do you think? Thanks!

Go ahead and try going to 4.0 then 4.1 with Waninkoko's updater.

Everything worked great. I upgraded from from 3.3 to 4.0 to 4.1 without a hitch. The games are all working perfect. Thanks, Larry!
