I used the guide here to softmod my wii with bannerbomb ios249/neogamma 6... works 100%...
Since then, I did my friends, the guide at that time was done using bootmii/neogamma 7 Once again worked great..props to your guides...my question is..and I have googled this many times and can't find anything definitive...if I wish to go from bannerbomb/gamma6 to bootmii/gamma7(for ex.)...do I have to first restore my wii to factory somehow??? all the guides take you step by step from a virgin wii...mine's not..how do I know which steps to skip?
Main reason for asking is this 4.2 update(more surely to come)..my wii works great and I have no reason to update (nintendo or the softmod)....but I'm guessing that's just for the time being... eventually something will have to be done? (new games ect..) Any input would be great, thanks in advance... BTW US/NTSC wii..if it matters...

There is no need to restore your Wii as both Neogamma and cIOS 249 can be updated. Neogamma is still actively being maintained with R8 Beta 3 as its latest version. As far as cIOS 249, cIOS38 Rev14 is the most current release, and there is an anticipation that Waninkoko will release a Rev15.
Also, there really is no need to update to firmware 4.2. As of yet, there are no games that require its installation. Moreover, it presents no new functionality. In essence, it is futile to upgrade as this firmware merely is an attempt to rid or hinder homebrew development and hacks.
