Folks,

I am having a tad bit of trouble flashing this drive. This is a new Elite which was purchased by a friend recently who gave it to me to be modded. Before you ask, I have previously successfully modded a number of drives including BenQ, Hitachi and the previous Lite-On 74850c.

The drive details:

Manufactured: August 2009
HW Ver: AOA2
FW Ver: 83850C

I have followed the JF Tutorial to the tee and I am getting 'LO83info extraction failed!' error. The drive key just returns with all zeros.

I have power cycled, tried different combinations etc. Trolling around various forums, I know some people have said that this drive is NOT currently moddable?

Is this true?? Has anyone successfully flashed this drive? What am I doing wrong?

I also tried it with Free Key but could not find the XtractorReaderLO83 application to replace the original application.

Can anyone shed any light on the above?

Thanks

Squiby

it might be one of the new revisions of the lite-on 83850c drives. but im pretty sure the a0a2 is the original ones. check out leerages guide on these drives and see if that helps any.

Leerage's guide was the one that I was following and also the standard JF Tutorial for 83850c.

One thing that it might be is the power cycle of the drive but i am pretty sure I am doing it right.

After pressing LO83info:

I eject the drive, remove the power cable from the DVD Drive, close the tray half way and re-power the drive, then press ok. (Normally, I already have the drive half-in prior to pressing LO83info and just do a fresh power cycle).

When it requests to put the tray fully open, I just manually slide it out or press the eject button.

But whatever combination I try it gives me LO83 extraction failed!

It's driving me nuts..!

not sure then. i know i had the same issue when i did my first 83850c drive, but i just had to play with the half tray. i think i ended up putting at the second line on the underside of the tray, and it worked.

second line on the underside of the tray??

mite be worth a shot if i can get some sort of reference point?

As far as you know then JF is good enough to do it, it's just difficult to extract the key??

Did you put it in half tray before pressing LO83info?

I am certain it is not me as I have done others using the same technique, but it is always good to clarify..

yea, on the underside of the tray, there will be some 'lines' actually pieces of the tray that are more than likely there for support, i had to put the second one at the edge of the main drive unit. and im pretty sure i didnt have mine in half tray when i started. it was in the closed position, but upside down so i could slide the latch to unlock it.

I will check it out tomorrow using the reference, I will also try the other VIA port on the card..

Do we know for a fact that the August 2009 drives can be modded sucessfully and are not the revisions? I know July 2009 can be done..

Reading over at XS, I am pretty sure no one has been able to dump a August 2009 83850C drive.

Hi Leerage,

I am going to give this one more crack and see if it works, if not then do we have any indication on how these drives can be hacked?

I take it is either wait for this to be flashable or to swap the drive with a different one physically? I take it this will not do any harm?

wont work. you would first have to get the key from the original drive, and if you cant dump it, you cant swap it.

Wabashman,

Sorry mate, bit confused on this whole swap business. My friend who gave me the Elite, also gave me a Previous Pro which has an E74 Error at the moment. I will fix that with X Clamp Fix, but I was thinking of taking the drive (possibly a Hitachi or wot not) out of that and whacking it in the Elite??

That drive is already pre-flashed.. Would it not work?

I am going to mess around with the 83850c later today to see if I can get the key, through different methods.

once again, you cannot simply take a drive from another unit and put it into yours. doesnt matter if its preflashed or stock. each console/drive has its own unique key, therefore you would have to flash the drive with the new consoles key.

You are going to have to wait. August 2009 drives can not be dumped at the moment. Microsoft/Lite-ON has either changed the key encryption or key location. Therefore, the LO83 method will not work. If anything comes up, I'm sure we all we know on here. The firmware team has a drive and they are decapping it and checking out to see what changes has been made.
