My Daughter bricked my Wii. I have Homebrew installed and the system was running on 3.2u. My daughter hit update with dirt 2 disk in the consule. That is a brand new release. I was not running a preloader for homebrew. I tried the gamecube L,R,U,D pushed at the same time and nothing. The consule shows nothing when powered up. Any hope or any other advise.

basically you downloaded the 4.2 update and it over bricked your wii. In this case you are royally screwed which you are. When nintendo created the 4.2 update it was mainly to stop piracy. But what they didnt realize was it caused bricks in normal systems and modded ones. Sometimes wii systems with softmods dont brick but just got their homebrew stuff removed. However sometimes the case is what happened to your wii which is a black screen brick. You cannot fix this unless you have a mod chip. Secondly, nintendo made an offer which states if your wii has no homebrew on it and you downloaded the update and bricked your wii you are allowed to return it to gamestop to get a new one etc.

If you have softmod in your system you cant do this, the only way now is to return it to nintendo to get a replacement. Its going to cost you a hefty sum. Your daughter killed your wii.

I would disagree that this is a 4.2 firmware issue. Dirt 2 would not have 4.2 firmware on the disc.

It is rare that a disc update would brick a system unless it is an out of region game.

Is it an out of region disc or did you install anything else besides a firmware update (like a wad file etc. etc.)?

It shouldn't be a out of region disk. I live in Arizona and I rented the disk from Block Buster. The homebrew channel gator loader wouldn't load it so I was going to work on it and my daughter hit update when I was sleeping. The only Wad that I had installed I believe was backup channel gamma 002fix.wad .
