I had my laser go out on my samsung drive, then I somehow messed up the ribbon from the laser to the drive board so I got a new drive today and flashed it. Well I got the ROD once again.. It's very weird how one day it will work somewhat then the next day after not even playing or leaving it on it will start acting up again.. So today I tore everything apart again, cleaned up the chips (with rubbing alcohol, i plan on getting AS tomorrow) and reapplied the new gel two different times today. It was radioshack brand by the way (which I also plan on getting AS5 tomorrow).. I reapplied the heat sinks and tightened the screws just as you would putting a tire on a car (already have the x-clamps done) and tried two different methods and this is where I am confused.

I have read two different things -- one is to leave the screws snug but not tight, and power on the unit without the fans even running for 5-10 minutes. Then let it cool and tighten the screws the rest of the way.
And the other thing I have read is to tighten the screws up as you would to put everythign back together, but leave the fan plugged in but have it set over the CPU sink and leave it go for about 30-45. I only let mine go for about 20-25 min as I thought that would def be enough.

Secondary error is 0102 ..

I have searched many different methods and I'm striking out here... starting to think the 60$ I paid for this that I really got what I paid for lol.

Any ideas or thoughts on what I could be missing here? I would appreciate it! I'm seriously pulling my hair out as I've been working for the past week and a half trying to get this thing running. With a torn acl I can't do anything sports wise so it'd be awesome if I had atleast something fun to play lol..

Thanks in advance!

I generally find once they rod they dont come back until you repair it again. haven't seen one just come back by itself.

Remember the xclamp/overheat is a trick, and not a fix, and I would suspect there is a limited number of times it will work until it gives up the ghost forever. best option is try and get someone to reflow the solder joints as that tends to be the issue with the 0102 error.

also on that note, I leave the fan to cool the CPU while letting the GPU overheat. remember as soon as you get two red lights flashing the system has turned off the GPU/CPU so you aren't achieving anything, idea is to let the GPU get very hot and make the system think its ok since the heat sensor in the cpu is reporting it being cold.

dude if you cant afford to reflow it then there is a way by using a heat gun many poeple would say this is a bad idea but i have done many now all with success this can be dangerous if not done safley so i would suggest looking it up first as to do it this way the rest of the board must be isolated perfectly or you risk exploding caps so please do your research there are tuts out there if you cant find any give me a shout back and ill see what i have links too.

I've also heard using a heat gun can be setting yourself up for trouble...

I don't know if I would use that method.

If you do end up sending it in ( 3 yr warranty on RROD) and plan to keep it, I would highly suggest upgrading your hard drive to at least a 60GB HDD if you don't have one already. I install the game to the hard drive so that 1: My disks dont scratch and 2: It just runs quieter which to me suggests its running cooler? Maybe not, but the reduced risk of scratching disks is worth the 5 min it takes to do this, regardless.

I also made sure that my new Elite runs a 12.1V over the 14.5V. Some claim that if you have this, than you have the new "Jasper" chipset. If so, great. And if its all true, its supposed to be a cooler chipset thus reducing the chance of RROD.

Google it. Hope this helps.
