I just thought id check out some last minute listings for a Faultty unit and i saw one that caught my attention.

this is what the listing stated.......

Faulty Xbox 360 has the RROD

Comes with unopened Manual/Documents, power supply brick & mains cable,

AV cable with scart adapter, HD TV cable, two wired controllers,

1x in perfect condition & 1x in well used working condition.

Complete with original box.

and these are the questions asked by buyers......

A: Warranty sticker is intact, console was new early 2008, the ps3 has never been opened, hope that answers your question.

A: No, its has never been taken apart, my last xbox got the
rrod, i sent it to microsoft for repair in early 2008 & they sent me new unit, and this new xbox got the same fault about two months ago. Ive now swithched to a new ps3 slim, i hope this answers your question

With minutes to go i tried to grab a bargain and assumed the unit was the HDMI model based on the answers to the above questions. I also assumed that the unit was newer than i now know it is..

Anyways, after the listing ended i asked him to confirm the MFD and can you believe it, "2006-09-15 when will you be making payment"

Shit, why do i always jump in the deep end lol

Im trying to get out of it now as ive just sent him a message accusing him of being misleading, which in all honesty i believe he has been.

I know its probably my fault for jumping in but do you guys not think his answers were slightly miss leading??

his answers arent misleading at all. sorry. he states it went in for repair in early 08. in 08 consoles were less prone to RROD, so it would have have to been an older console.

Surely he is talking about the MFD and not when it was bought

He also say that they sent him out a "NEW UNIT"

In early 2008 would they of really sent out a new unit manufacture in 2006?

Im still learning here and obviously not very well lol

it would have been a new unit, but they keep the same date as the original console.

like when i send any of the consoles i get from ebay in, it is a 'new refurbished' system, but it will still have the old consoles SN and manu date on it.

oh ok, im getting there lol

curious tho, would they send you one with the same manu is they lost your one as he stated in a message that they lost his unit.

"i received this xbox from microsoft early 2008, after i had sent in my original rrod xbox which they managed to lose. i didn't know it had the date of manufacture on it until you mentioned it in your previous message. if you dont want the xbox i will offer it to someone else or relist it."

he had this to say and then sent me another message stating that he was going to have a think about what feed back he would leave. (little dick ed).

Im thinking i might pay for the item anyways and file an item not as described claim, Hell if my feedback getting affected then so is his.

Ive tried reasoning with the guy but he seems a bit uptight so im waiting for him to respond to my last message where i placed blame on both of us and requested that we settle sensibly and without the hassle.

Lets wait and see if im going to be loosing my 100% f/score ;(

can sellers even leave negative feedbacks anymore on ebay?? last i checked, you couldnt. which was completely stupid for ebay to get rid of. i know you can still leave negatives for sellers, as i just did this yesterday.

as to replacing the 'lost' console, they would still have had the serial number for the console, so they could easily determine what type of console it was, pro, arcade, hdmi, non-hdmi, jasper, falcon, etc, and would have replaced it with a like console. they might have reprinted the back sticker, or it could have been a new one.

side note, an easy way to tell if this guy is telling you the truth or not is to log into xbox.com and attempt to register the console under your information. if it registers, then he never sent it into MS as you would have to call them and get the registration switched over to you.

just log into xbox.com (assuming your from the US), if not, then whatever your co.?? is. then there should be a support tab along the top, it will have a dropdown thing, click 'check repair status'. then click on register new device and type in the consoles serial number.
