resolder ethernet port replacement?

Anyone ever done this? My boards ethernet port is bad, won't get an IP and wireless is not an option. I have read of people grabbing ethernet ports from bad board which I have. Was just curious if it will work.

Is the physical port bad or is the Ethernet chip bad? They are two different components.

Odds are that you can't tell and even if you could, you wouldn't be able to replace the chip since it is SMA soldered to the motherboard.

Just go out and buy an Ethernet card. If you try to solder onto your Motherboard the chances are that you would do more harm than good.

You could get an ethernet to usb adapter then plug it into the usb port, i'm not sure if that will work though.

Not real sure. which one is the ethernet port chip?
