Ive just been playing the Darkness, and Im probably around 80% complete, when I hit a loading screen and the xbox intervened telling me the "disc is dirty or damaged blah blah". I took it out it certainly isnt dirty. Is this a symptom of a badly burned copy? I used to buy games from a certain person and most of them work fine, but the Darkness and COD4 get "dirty" when Im nearing the conclusion of the campaign, which is incredibly frustrating. Has anyone else ever encountered this? Ill buy them from a shop if this is the case but want to make sure its not another problem, like the laser giving out?

Crap media or issue with your burner. Slight chance it could be your 360 laser.

Plain white disc, I reckon it is a RITEK ARITA DVD+R DL as I have bought a spindle of them and they are also plain white label. The shifty guy I used to buy the games off sold the games at the same computer fare as the place I bought the blank ARITA discs, so he probably bought the same ones. Are they reliable or is that a good way to waste £12?

They are a waste. Get Verbatim made in Singapore.

Yes verbatim was always the plan. Firstly Im going to get the writer and try the Arita discs. If they fail then Ill buy the verbatims. Where is the best place to get verbatims? ebay has loads but are there any cheaper (Im in UK by the way)

Going back to the original issue, the game works fine now, so maybe it wasnt a bad burn. I had been playing for about 2.5 hours so think the xbox was just getting sick of it and decided to pull the "dirty/damaged" trick. Seriously I think my Xbox has M.E, it doesnt want to do anything, it wont even open the CD tray itself. Lazy.

Thanks for the info about Verbatims off play Ill compare their prices to ebay although Im prepared to pay a bit more for these much praised Singapore made discs.
