I followed the TUT for jungle flasher (using 0.1.66b) and it froze when i tried to write the firmware, Had no choice but to turn off the pc and xbox. (Is 0.1.66b any good as it seems to freeze alot?)

Now the little green light in the middle keeps flashing, The xbox show a e65 error and jungle flasher will not recognize the drive at all.

I managed to extract and save the key but im not sure if it is good as i read about having to verify the key but was not sure on how to do this??

I have installed portI/O32 as it shows as xbox 360 drivers in device manager and i have checked device manager for VIA drivers.

I have flashed a few hitachi drives but this is my first benq.

I have just received this unit today as a faulty drive that does not read disks, i tried cleaning the laser and components inside just in case but still no luck so i thought i would check the firmware on the drive, It was iextreme 1.1 so i know the drive has been flashed before and though that maybe the previous flash had gone wrong so i tried to reflash to 1.6 and thats when it froze on me.

Im not as worried about the bricked drive as i am about if the right key was on there in the first place, so i am going to try and spoof the benq key to a samsung ts-h943 drive i know to be working to see if it works but not sure if this is as simple as it sounds.

Do i need to flash samsung iextreme firmware with the benq key to the samsung drive? is that the correct method?

Sorry for the long post

its not bricked, you cant really brick a benq. just get the drive back into vendor mode, and write the FW again. or you could use dosflash for it to finish the writing. or even iprep for another alternative.

it wont go back into vendor mode WAB!

Jungle flasher will not even list the drive and the drive will not open or close. That little green light on the xbox just keeps flashing as soon as i turn it on.

Im investigating iprep now but if i cannot get the drive into vendor mode will it still be possible mate?

yea its still possible, you might have to power cycle the drive though. read through the 'lite-on drive wont eject after firmware erasing' threads as the process will be the same for your lite-on. at least for getting back into vendor mode it will be.

and i know dosflash will work, as i have had to do this on my last two lite-on drives, JF just wouldnt put the drive into vendor mode after erasing the FW from it. just booted into dos, typed in dosflash.exe, type in the number for the lite-on drive, hit 'w' then hack.bin and it did its thing and was done.

edit---

see what i mean about you should have went in that hole??? lol jk

I managed to recycle the drive and get it back in to vendor mode and i also nearly got it to write firmware but it came back as "write verify failed in JF??? any idea's

and i cant remember how to even boot into dos its been that long lol

I would prefer JF as it is easier to use and im now using 0.1.64 instead of 0.1.66 and it hasn't frozen yet!!

PS: Ive been looking for a hole big enough to hide myself in from the rest of the world but cant seem to find one, Is your girl available ??

:) joke

leerage has a HP format tool in his sig, use it to make a bootable usb drive, and do it that way. but if JF ends up working for you then awesome.

Finaly, i tried one last time and it just went straight through and flashed 1.6 to the drive :)

Only thing is it still wont read disks, it just says reading for about a minute and then says open tray.

What is the cause of this? I presume its dead laser but if it might be an invalid key i need to know so i can get on to the guy who sold them to me.

How could you tell if the key is valid? in regards to how the xbox would act with?

whats your key look like? if its FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF or 55555555555555 or anything other than something like asldkjf907uasdfljh235 then it probably dumped a bad key. and if thats the case, hopefully the guy you bought it off of has the original saved somewhere. but i would see if it plays a legit game first though.

as for the POT calibration, i think its clockwise for the dvds. i know theres a tutorial around here somewhere though.

SWEEEEET!!!!

Now a proud owner of a BenQ flashed with iextreme 1.6!!!

It was pot calabration Wab, im not sure if it is the same for all drives but i found a post stating a setting of 3.0-3.4k using a mutimeter and belive it or not, both the boxes i got today off the same person i fixed with this very same method.

Time to start digging myself out that hole Wab ;)

Gotta do a lite on drive now and from what i can make out from other posts this is gonna be the hardest one to do??

watch out for my thread tomorrow sayying

glad you got fixed. also glad to see that hole is getting shallower now. and just fyi, you cant brick a lite-on either. just make sure you get the files from it, inquiry, identify, dummy and key before you erase it. and they are about as easy as the benqs in my opinion. just need a few more items to flash the 7000 series.

Damn i need to make a probe before i do this one, Guess i'll go shopping for the transistors/resistors tomorrow!

I tried the dummy from iextreme just in case it had been flashed before but you know what my lucks like innit Wab?? :)

So its just the probe i need to flash the lite-on then yea?

Ive got an old DB connector somewhere but i will have to cut a usb cable as my PC hasn't got the connection, i will get the transistors tmoz!

only help i can think of at the moment is if someone can tell me what sort of equipment is likely to have the resistors and transistor in so i can go rip em out and build it now lol

A guy in the build your own probe just got back to me and said he got the resistors out of an old Compaq monitor, i just need to know what i could find a NPN transistor in know :)
