Lost DVDKEY symtoms, How can you tell??

Just need a quick answer here guys, If i am buying a faulty unit off of someone how can i confirm the dvdkey is present.
dvd key or can i ask him to try anything else.

If it is a faulty unit then how do you expect the guy to try an original game in the first place?
RROD or the drive will just act as a normal DVD player.

The fault is that it wont play his backup games and he has no originals to try.
abit stupid as i think it might just be that the guy didnt flash it right. Hell if i can swap a flashed non HDMI for A HDMI and then fix and flash it and hes going to give me money on top then id say im getting a bargain :)
