I have an xbox with a seemingly broken ethernet jack (i can hook the xbox up to a live internet connection and i get a "no ip address) error). I want to connect to my existing wireless (or wired) network using the xbox's usb port, but i don't want to buy the expensive microsoft adapter.
I've looked around, and I've heard conflicting ideas about whether or not this can be done with other wireless adapters.
The ethernet to usb adapter should work, but I have never tried this so I cannot confirm it. If you want to go wireless you could by a cheap wireless router and spoof/flash it with DD-WRT firmware then use that like a bridge. See the DD-WRT website for more details.

Dont think that will work as his ethernet port is broke.
AFAIK, the USB to ethernet adaptors wont work. You need to install drivers for them on a PC so i cant see the XBOX having these inbuilt.
Think you will just have to fork out for the M$ rip off one sorry.
If the error pops up like within a second of initiating the test, the ethernet port is broke. If it is something else (except a bad cable) it will at least try for probably about a minute or two. I had a 2008 xbox 360 do the same thing. Sad for something that new to die with something out of warranty of course.
