I have a Samsumg drive flashed to iXtreme 1.6 and it reads all my originals fine but, some backup discs are recognized as DVD's only.
Some other backups are read ok regardless of the disc's brand. So some Verbatim can't be read at all (it always says is a DVD) and some Matrix, Picasso even Playo are read fine. So it appears to me that it is not a mechanical or a laser problem.
I bought some of these games on the street (very easy to do in Mexico), and despite that the Verbatim burns are praised as better, not all of them works on my Samsung drive but as a I said, some games burned on cheaper media does work.
Any Ideas? Does these discs need some patchig in order to work?
run your games that done work through abgx and see if it says they are stealth patched or not. if they are missing one single thing, then the console wont boot them.

Please correct me if I'm wrong but the abgx program is to be used on ISO files. Can this be used on an actual burned disc?
If a particular burned game is not patched what can be done?
it can be used to read burnt discs. in the drop down box, click on dvd drive, or whatever the other option is. if it comes up as unstealth. then you can rip the game to your computer via imageburn and then run that back through abgx to make it a proper .iso, and reburn it.

I passed some of the discs thru ABGX360 and yes, these discs are not stealth compliant.
So I dumped it with imgburn, patched with ABGX360 again, re-burned it on fresh Verbatim media and presto!
ALL of my discs works!
It only happens that when I play them for some time the game freezes but I think this is because of the heat produced by my XBOX 360. If I started with a cool XBOX runs flawlessly. So I will buy a cooler for my console.
