Hi folks,

Before I begin, I'd like to apologise to creaky for my inappropriate forum etiquette. Ok, after saving a few peoples Xbox's from the RROD issue, a friend asked me if I could fix his son's elite which wasn't reading disks. At the time I thought "simple" so agreed to fix it for him, but now I am beginning to feel a touch over my head. May I point out that I do not wish to load custom firmware to the new drive as I do not wish to be banned from XBL.

The original drive which stopped reading disks is a Liteon DG-16D2s (SW ver.74850C). The One I purchased to replace it with is a Benq VAD6038. I have also purchased the xecuter ck3 connectivity kit pro complete with the probe etc etc.

If I offend anyone or break any site rules by asking stupid questions I apologise in advance, but do I assume that I have to somehow extract the drive info from the liteon drive and then somehow load it into the Benq so that when I put the xbox back together it will think that the Benq drive is still the Liteon and therefore not ban me from xbox live. This is the impression I am getting from looking around, I am just very unsure of what would be the best course of action to take, and if I find the best course of action, how to take it. I am finding this very confusing and if someone could take the time to help me I would be greatly appreciative as I really dont want to have to tell my friend that I couldnt fix his xbox for him.

heres hoping

No one can guarantee you wont get banned.

But yes you would extract the key from the lite-on. Then spoof the key to the Benq iXtreme firmware. Then write to the Benq drive.

Dont think there is anymore risk in spoofing your drive to another than there is in flashing your drive anyway.

I have spoofed a couple and they are fine. Though i am expecting to get banned on one of them soon due to me playing ODST before it was released

Guess I'm just gonna have to bite the bullet and go for it then. I guess if it gets banned I could always get my revenge on M$ and add some "custom" F/W,lol. But with any luck I'll get away with it. It's so wrong, you pay all that money for something that should be yours to do what you like with, but microc*** wont let you. Thanks for the help guys i appreciate it.
