I got this error while verifying a game. This happened when I burned ODST and it worked fine but I was just wondering if it's ok to play. ABGX fixed everything. Here's the log.

Yeah it is. Is it ok to play? I mean it works and everything. Just wasn't sure why imgburn wouldn't verify

It won't verify because there are uncorrectable errors part way through the disc. The game might fire up OK, but it could hang at any time when the laser hits the parts of the disc that have the errors on them. Try installing it to your 360's hard drive if you have one, because if it installs OK then it'll probably play OK, as the entire game has to be read so it can be copied to the hard drive during the install process.

Your drive is old too and the newest firmware for it is 4 years old. Get some Verbatims and if they're no good then look at getting a new burner.

Yeah, it's definitely old. I had just bought a new drive from best buy that was working fine but decided to return it because I found this one in an ancient computer of mine and saw it burned DL discs. Haha probably a stupid move on my part.

Oh well, I'll just cross my fingers and hope it's the disc. The bright side of all of this is that this old one actually writes at 2.4 while the one I just returned only went as low as 4x

So I just tried the disc and it does work at all. The odd part is that the back of the disc has a weird patter on it. Instead of the disc being discolored at the very edge it has a think ring around the edge and an even thicker ring in the middle of the disc. Does anyone know what this means? Is the burner dead or was a setting wrong or what?

Just hope I didn't return that other one for nothin =/

That's not a bright side. lol. Burning slower doesn't always mean a better burn. It can mean a worse quality burn. There are various factors, such as the firmware installed on the burner, the quality of the media, and how well that media works in your particular burner at any given speed. I burn all my discs at 8X and get better quality burns than when I did tests at lower speeds, so the "2.4X is always best!" thing is just nonsense. It was more applicable to the older MKM-001 Verbatims that had a rated speed of 2.4X (but will burn just fine at 4X in a lot of burners), but the newer MKM-003 discs are rated at 8X and with the right burner you'll get great results at that speed and be able to burn discs in less than 18 minutes.

Having a ring around the edge is normal. Try some Verbs and you'll almost certainly get better results, cos discs that use that Ritek dye are usually shite. If ImgBurn fails to verify the burn then it's a bad burn, so you shouldn't really expect the game to work. You can get lucky and get games to boot, but as I said before, the game could hang at any time once the laser hits the section where the uncorrectable errors are.

A ring around the edge is normal but it's way thicker then any of my other working discs. It's kind of like multiple little rings just very close together. Pretty weird.
But I don't really wanna go out and get verbs just yet. In case the drive is just shit ya know?
Is there anything I could try before possibly wasting another disc from trying to burn the game again? Maybe a different firmware (considering BYX3 is so old)? Or maybe I could do something about the DMA? I'm not really sure what any of that stuff does I've just seen other people talking about it from doing google searches lol.

If you have any ideas just let me know. The less money the better.
Your help so far is appreciated

This can have a negative effect on burn quality in some circumstances: -

W 19:11:55 SPTD can have a detrimental effect on drive performance.

Do you have Daemon Tools or a similar program installed? If so, uninstall it, then download the SPTD uninstaller and fully remove that, then try burning another disc. I don't think it's that, but it's a possibility and you can try it without having to buy anything. The worst that can happen is you'll waste another disc.

Here's the SPTD uninstallers for the 32 bit and 64 bit versions of Windows: -

http://www.duplexsecure.com/download/SPTDinst-v162-x86.exe
http://www.duplexsecure.com/download/SPTDinst-v162-x64.exe

Uninstall Daemon Tools (or whatever is the offending program) first, then run the appropriate SPTD uninstaller. If it makes no difference, then you can just reinstall the app.

If that's no good, I'd seriously just get some Verbs. Even if you have to buy a new drive, you'll be better off using Verbatims for 360 games in the long run so you won't be wasting your money. The only thing you've wasted your money on is those Riteks, lol.

I search for updated firmware for your burner when I first read your post. You have the newest installed already. It's just that the drive is old and they stopped supporting it some time ago.

You'd be better off replying in your own thread mate. It gets confusing otherwise!
