Hey, I´m about to buy a new xbox360.
One of the reasons is because I want to be safe that when mine first one rrods (it´s a no hdmi hitachi, over 3 years old I guess) I have a second xbox as backup, so i don´t need to skip a single day playtime.
But what is really compelling me is playing games by system link with friends.
So,
1- what happens when i system link my consoles and put on each one of them a copy of the same original?
2- For legal reasons, for playing system link do I need to own 2 copies of the same game?
3- If for any reason, one of them get banned from Live, that doesn´t affect system link aye?
Ty

system link plays fine with burnt games. it will work with banned consoles as you arent connecting to LIVE to use it.
Come talk with us on efnet at #elitemods !!! or just click ME
ALSO, DO NOT SEND ME MESSAGES ON LIVE REGARDING MODDING CONSOLES, OR HOW I PLAYED A CERTAIN GAME EARLY. I WILL NOT RESPOND. I WILL INSTEAD DELETE YOUR MESSAGE, AND BLOCK ALL COMMUNICATION FROM YOU. JUST SEND ME A PM ON HERE.

system link works fine with burned games. I'm not sure what your asking in your first question because you have to have to copies of the game to system link anyway.

I mean, if I use 2 copies of the same original. I thought there could be a unique number or something and the system could recognize that in fact the very same dvd is being played in both consoles and than it don´t work or explodes or something :D
It doesnt happen right? It just plays fine using two identical copy twins?

I hope that everyone understood I was beeing sarcastic.
I read a topic about someone who got problem with backups and sys link, while originals worked fine.
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/692803
Research hasn´t been kind to me in the subject.
Buying a new console is not softcore for me. I live in a third world country and dollars worth 2x the money currency here. I got this shot of someone bringing it to me (400% importation fees otherwise), and I have no support from M$ whatsoever.
So, if anyone would be kind enough to advise me on the subject since it makes the difference between running the risk and paying the price to buy it or not.

Oh and I realise that was a thread from august 2008, and a one of a kind, and if people had recurrent problems with it there would probably be more, but I don´t know, xbox live is so acessible and lag free there that maybe few people would care to sys link.

Inalbis,
System-linking from two copies of one disc is fine. No unique serial numbers. Think about it.......... someone rips a game, posts it up on the net, hundreds/thousands of people download it, and play on Live with no problems (i.e. no serial number issues). As a matter of fact, my son and I System-Link often (RE5, H3 Firefight, Gears 2, Need/Speed, etc, etc, etc). Once your console is modded, the only real difference is that it'll read burns. Other than that, it'll behave EXACTLY like a normal (first world) Xbox360, so use it as such.

Thanks mate that clears it up ;)
Now since you mentioned You play firefight and Gears 2 on sys link, and I know those can be split-screened, would you know if it is possible to play linked and split screen? So 4 people playing in 2 linked splitscreens? :P

Yes:
ODST Campaign = 4 players on 2-4 screens.
ODST Firefight = 4 players on 2-4 screens.
Gears 2 Campaign = 2 players on 1-2 screens.
Gears 2 Multiplayer = 8 players on 2-4 screens.

Could using a banned 360 with a backup get a legit 360 with an original banned?
Is the concept of system-link to be able to play co op completely offline. Thanks in advance.
