Do games always ask you before they update?

Do all games ask you before they update or would some just automatically do it? My softmodded Wii is working now and plays almost everything so if I never mess around with installing anything else it should never brick right?

Game discs will always give you prompts to update if it senses a specific IOS not found in your system in order for you to play it. Just be extra-careful as someone else may load a disc and accidentally accept an update.

if you are using backups or a usb loader get wii tools and use wizzle shizzle nizzle to patch the update which will remove it from the iso

You should be able to update safely though as long as the game is the same region as yours,eg: ntsc, pal. As far as I know there is no updates past 3.4 on a game disc. As 4.2 update will delete homebrew channel. And some games need certain ios's to run the game that you want to play and it will ask you for an update if it doesn't detect it on your system. As mentioned above.
