Hi guys i have just received a fualty elite (e74) that i wish to send in for repair as it is covered by the warranty,
the thing is it wont let me register the device and keeps telling me to call Microsoft.
I am going to do this but want to know in advance if there is anything i need to know first.
Like : shall i tell them it was bought of eBay, am i going to need to supply poof of purchase, are they going to ask me any detailed questions about the unit etc etc
Its going to be the first one i send of so any advice here would be great thanks...

I wouldn't say it was bought off ebay. Just say you bought it or received it as a gift, it now has the error, and you want it repaired.

Ok so after speaking to the Microsoft man i was told that the warranty was only valid for original owners,
I told him that i had purchased it from a friend and he required there information before he would register the device,
I have now asked the seller to provide this information but if he dons't then where does that leave me??

Would it make any difference that i live in the UK?
I will try again but the eBay seller says he dos not have the details either.

If the console's been registered to someone else, you'll need their details. If it hasn't, then you can register a repair, but obviously you shouldn't have told them it was second hand because the warranty is non-transferable. You can still get away with it by calling back, as long as the console isn't already registered using someone else's details.
You have to wonder why an eBay seller would sell a console that he/she could have repaired for free. Even if they no longer want it, it's worth more repaired than it is broken. Maybe they bought it broken from someone else with the same intention as you and also found they couldn't get a free repair because it's registered to someone else.

i just use the 'i got it at a garage sale' or 'a friend gave it to me' and all but my last one has been fixed. and it could have been because it wasnt mine first, or bc i claimed it had rrod, when it actually didnt display video.....who knows, either way it went back on ebay and i still made money from it.

Ive registered ebay and used consoles with ease. Only one person asked for the details. The other people just registered it. If they asked for the previous owner details go back to the ebay receipt and pull the name off that.

Ok so i tried 3 different approaches to customer services and one of them included emotional blackmailing the women so bad that i actually felt sorry for her lol
Yet i am told each time i phone that without the original owners details the console will not be able to be registed to me and all of them said that it is not even in there power to do this without the owers details..
I was also told that they would not repair it either without the details of the original owner
I think it might work a bit different here in the uk guys!!!
So im now stuck with a E74 Elite, Should i sell it on ebay as is or should i attempt a fix, replace the warranty and then sell it as working? :)

First, if you bought it on ebay then go back to your ebay receipt and pull off the owner details/address etc. If that doesn't work I'd attempt a fix. When working, sell it as working. You can even try a permanant fix with the xclamps/heatgun. E74 is harder to fix but I know it's possible. Sometimes E74 is fixed by the xclamp replacement. When you remove the warranty sticker though, make sure you are able to put it back so you can sell it with the sticker to gain an extra $20 or so.

I treid but he was not the original owner :(
When you say xclamp and replace seal, do you mean use the xclamp and overheat fix and then replace the original xclamp, or do you think i should leave the xclamp fix in place and sell it as working and unopened anyway??

i would either attempt to fix it yourself, or just put it back on ebay and let someone else deal with it.

1. Heat and remove the warranty sticker properly.
2. Replace x clamps and attempt fix.
a- If it works then sell as working-> pre x clamped. Don't say anything about it being broken.
b- If it doesn't work, reverse everything and put the seal back on it and sell it as untampered.
*This will only work if you leave no signs of it being opened as in the tabs at the top and bottom plates aren't broken, the back isn't pried open.

Don't jerk it too hard though. This is how I open all my cases and it looks fine.

Ive got down the opening process and the removal of the sticker so all is well there,
Im now attempting the fix but i aint having no luck.
Instead of the E74 ive now got the error 0110, I am playing around with pressure on the ram chips and have put 2 washers under the GPU heatsink but i am yet to make any progress.
Im overheating the GPU in an attempt to reflow as the pressure on the ram chips dont seem to be working.
Has anyone else got any ideas? I was thinking heat gun but the last time i done that i melt the sync and eject button and blew a capacitor :) lol
Maybe i will just reassemble and pass it on to another ebayer

anyone had the problem of not being able to get the secondary error code??????
Basically when i press the eject button in conjunction with the sync button ,of course, I get the first 4 lights and then i can press the eject button 6/7 times before the light goes to 1
Its like it aint responding or something but this only happens sometimes, What going on here??

They wont let me change the registration without the original owners details. Ive tied a few times now and when i give them the serial number, the next question they ask is
"have you called Microsoft in regards to this xbox before"
and im starting to feel dodgy saying no :) lol
As for the console, ive tried heat gunning the ram chips and the gpu heatsink but still get the 0110 so i dont know what else to try??
At least i saved the "sticker" and left no marks on or in the case in my attempt to fix it :), guess someone else will have to deal with it lol

Ive not left any traces or caused any damage so i have removed the x clamp mod, put the x clamps back on and im going to replace the sticker,
What the hell right?

I got ripped off when I bought an Elite like that. Guy said E74 and that it wasn't opened. Got it and it had RROD with holes drilled into the metal case and the RROD pointed to burned ram chips. When I smelled the RAM chips it was obviously burned so it's beyond repairs. Hoping to send it to MS with a spare warranty sticker and see if they'll fix it. I was lucky because the box wasn't registered.
Anybody wanna sell me a spare metal cage? lol.
