Hi,
I have a PAL SoftModded Wii (i used L_U_X_I_E to modd it if it matters) that is running on system update 4.1E.
i downloaded guitar hero 5 (PAL) and as you probably know it asked for a system update and when i tried to play it in the backup launcher i got an error message. will updating the system through the disk brick my wii? do i need to download and install ios56? what do i have to do in order to play the game?

use wii scrubber and remove the update partition then just load the game through your normal loader if you have a chip and neogamma if you dont.

ok, i removed the partition using wiiscrubber and the guitar hero symbol showed up on the disk channel instead of the wii system update symbol which i think is a good sign, but when i try to play the game on the backup launcher i get an error message (#002) which say that there was an error reading the disk please read your wii manual. what do i do? do i need to install ios 56?

Get a launcher with the anti-002 error fix.

Download/install IOS 56. 4x is a good rate to burn your backups. However, DVD quality is more important than speed. Use Verbatim, Taiyo Yuden, or whatever media has worked for you in the past. Also, try a different burning engine such as ImgBurn.

black screen error means wrong ios normally. You need certain ios to play certain games and i dont know which ones you have.

Black screen can be caused by many things. It could be that the Wii system is looking for the update that is either no longer there or blocked. Hence, it gives you nothing but a black screen when trying to boot the game. It could also be IOS-related, media issue, or DVD writer problem. The best advice I can give you is to adhere to the basics. Use DVD-R media if you haven't already. Adjust your speed to 2.4X in Imgburn to test. If all else fails, download the game from a different source.

I'm interested in buying the real House of the Dead Ovrekill game and Punch Out. Before I do so, I want to know if the games will force me to do a system update and if they do force to do a system update, would the game still work if I select No and not do the system update? I don't know what versions of the system updates I have, it's been a long time before I did the system updates.

If you want the games to work than maybe just do the update. The game is obviously needing an ios off the disc to play. this is totally safe to do the update as long as the disc is definately your region. I have done this myself when I was on 3.3E so I could play wii sports resort (which needed FW3.4 to play) I have a fully softmodded wii and nothing bricked. Thats my opinion anyway. If you still aren't sure than do an backup of your nand and then do it. At least then you can go back to where you started before the update.
