hi i have db 500s and the run from my router to the box is quite long, i have a down pipe out the back of the house where the coax to the dish is neatly tucked in next to im wondering could i run the ethernet cable up next to that and in to the room im looking for it to reach or is there hazards involved (obviously both connection ends will be in doors)

i believe you can but as the cable is used outdoors it may have to be replaced after a number of years.

couldn't you run it inside a plastic conduit to keep the weather & sun off ?
Screwfix sell a good kit for about £12

Don't forget to put a u shape before it enters the wall so any water droplets drip away from the entrance hole

Why don't you just use homeplugs that use your existing mains wiring around the house extend your internet range. A set of two costs under £40.00 now.

you buy a twin pack of home plugs one plugs into a power socket near your router and an eternet lead goes from router to plug. Then put the other plug in any room where you want your dreambox and put it into a power socket next to your dreambox. An ethernet net lead goes from dreambox to plug. The dreambox can then communicate with the router via your mains network. This give you the advantage of being able to move the plugs from room to room. Lots of us dreambox guys have been using them from ages. You can also buy additional plugs at a later date.

ha ha forgot about plugs as i use them here but take note different levels of house may have electrics on a different circuit so you may have to link upstairs to downstairs to use.

I've tested mine using adaptors upstairs and the main feed is downstairs and there on a different curcuit. I also have one in my garage attached to a tm9100 for 9 months, also on a different circuit. They worked fine. What you have to remember is that it all goes back to the fuse box anyway so there linked in one way or another. 85mb is ok for sd watching but 200mb for hd content.
