I've been burning my backups on Verbatim DVD+R Dual layer discs at 2.4x and haven't had much problems until lately. I recently tried to burn Fifa 10 on one of my Verbatim discs and when I put it in my Xbox it attempts to read and then just displays Open Tray. So I thought maybe the release maybe bad so I downloaded it from another source and my friend wanted a copy so he gave me one of his Memorex Dual Layers and I burned it and it worked fine in my Xbox360. Then using the same burner and Fifa 10 iso I burn it on my Verbatim and I get the same "Open Tray" message on my Xbox360.

Should I switch over to Memorex?? I thought Verbatim discs were the best to use for the Xbox360 since day #1. If someone can give me some help I would really appreciate it cause it is almost $2 a pop for every disc I waste :( Thanks

Sounds to me like the laser in your 360's DVD drive is dusty or needs a pot calibration adjustment and you got lucky with a single burn of a game. In general, don't expect to get lucky from Memorex. The quality is not standard across batches, and while one batch may be good, another may not. In addition, I believe the ink used in Memorex discs degrades more quickly than the ink used in Verbatim discs.

Your burner may be affecting the burn quality as well. This is especially true if you are using a laptop burner.

Also, there is no need to write at 2.4 speed. Burn at whatever speed the disc is rated at.

Is $2 really too much to spend on a backup of a brand new game that retails for $60? You can get Verbatims 50 for $60 anyway.

No $2 is not a lot but in the past few weeks I have probably wasted close to 10-15 discs.

I never tried buring faster then 2.4x and always read on other forums that 2.4x is best. I can try to burn at a faster speed but I thought it was weird that the Memorex copy of Fifa worked but the Verbatim didn't. My xbox360 is not that old, only bought it this February and it only gets play like 1-2 hours per week. If anything is dusty it's the top of my xbox360 :)

This is not a laptop burner, it's a desktop Pioneer 115D. I will try it on another burner I have at my office and see if it is better.

Verbs are better then memorex. BUT honestly I have been buying memorex as of late. I have used about 30 disks and they have come out perfect. Burn at 4x and I have had different batches I cant complain. I also use a lg slim lightscribe burner and have had no burn errors from that ever. Maybe I am lucky buT i use image burn and disable my virus and internet (wireless) when I burn.....Could also be that you just happen to get a bad batch of verbs too.

I've been liking memorex dvd +r dls lately as well especially that my local microcenter are selling them for $10 for 15 which is about half the price of verbatims from amazon. I've burned about 30 backups on my Samsung sh-223q with no issues and usually install the game onto my hd if I enjoy it.

I acknowledge that the dye might not last as long as verbatims but in all honesty I don't go back to play these games after they've been out a few months.

$2 bucks a pop isn't too much to pay to backup games but why should I pay more when the cheap knockoffs are doing fine. ;)

My buddy also uses Memorex and hasn't had any problems. However he gave me 2 of his dl discs in exchange for making him 2 copies using my verbs. One of the Memorex discs stopped burning halfway through. I've never had problems with verbs so that's what I'll stick with. To each his own.

Probably a bad batch Verbs (if you've normally had success with them in the past). I use Verbs on my box and on my son's box also. My daughter's box uses Memorex Maxell Aone TDK etc. Her box won't read Verbs at all. My advice is to stick to Verbs, they'll last longer, and casuse less strain on your 360.
