just got my 360, got a stranger to mod the same night. from the looks of all my research it looked like ver. 1.6 was the way to go. so i gto 1.6 modded, got my hands on a few backups and they ALL want to be read as DVDs. i tested them hands-on on a modded system before buying so i know they work. they were: marvel alli 2, fight night 4, ufc 09, and NFS shift! all stated to me to be wave 3 (whatever that is) and WILL work on 1.6!
Anyway... i between a rock and hard place. so a few questons!
1) my modder is insisting the his mod is correct otherwise normal(orig) wouldnt even be read! true?
2) since i have a samsung drive, i must have verbatim-brand dvd dls. true?
3) my backup source is saying downgrade to 1.51 because thats what his games are patched with and they are 100% stealthed. Shouldnt 1.6 play any previously patched discs? eg. 1.6 play 1.51 etc. or no?
please...any help is greatly appreciated. need help understanding also...been reaeding alot and still no thorough explanation to there things....
If originals work then at least he didn't mess things up completely. If he messed up the flash and lost your drive key, then no games would work, including originals. The 4 games you've tried are all wave 3, so my first guess would be that he installed an older version of the firmware that doesn't support wave 3 games. You can test that theory by getting an older wave 1 or 2 title to see if that boots.

If he literally said it like that, then he doesn't know what he's talking about. Games aren't patched with 1.51. That's just the firmware that's installed on the 360's DVD drive. The only reason you may want to downgrade is if you have a Hitachi drive, because iXtreme 1.51 for Hitachi drives will boot wave 4 games directly. All other versions of iXtreme 1.51 and 1.6 will not and you have to use an alternate method to get wave 4 games to boot. All of the games you listed are wave 3 though, so that's not the reason for them failing to boot.

All 360 games have a video partition on the disc. It exists so that if you put the disc in something other than a 360 it'll play a video saying "To play this disc, put it into an Xbox 360 console". The different waves denote different versions of this video partition. The wave 3 partition also contains a dashboard update. 1. stick with the latest firmare this is your only way to help keep you safe from bannings
2. if ur "Backup Source " sells patched games to you it says that he doesnt give a crap what happens to your console because patched games will get you banned
3. the modder is correct with saying that the mod worked because if it did not you would not be able to play originals. unless he didnt mod it at all
4. samsung drives are older drives and do have issues reading backups so the lower quality media you use the more head aches you will encounter.
heres what you do either tell your source to get you unpatched games or switch the guy you buy ur games from. also buying pirated games is illegal you should own a copy of the original in the first place afterdawn does not support piracy

i took my console to the "gamestore" and he tested a few games. like my modder said, the verbatim discs worked perfectly and all other as DVDs. so i guess things are modded correctly and i just to "make backups of the games i already own using verbatim from now on, correct"?
i had nearly the same probelm my lite on drive didnt like some
off my dealers games on 1.6 there wanted to play as dvd only or on ghostbusters the movie and sound skips .so had to flash back to 1.5.1 for most to work now i know the activate boot disc can boot my games i flashed back
to 1.6 repack . but i hear samsung drives cant use the boot disc
