well if your using the port i/o method in jungleflasher the hitachi tab will not tell you that it detects a hitachi drive. (even though it is present)

i had a repair like that crop up, it turned out i'd lost a washer from under a heatsink during install. i think the bolt / screw had earthed the mobo and caused a short. I undone everything and refitted the repair kit, crossed my fingers and voila..... it worked.

hope this helped a bit :)

hi miketrev

the kit i buy has:

Bolt->sprung washer->mobo->2off steel washers->heatsink

Thats how its assembled, i've seen nylon washers used but never tried them myself. Also - and this may be me being a little too careful but the sprung washer has a high and low edge at the point where it's cut.... i make sure the washer is sat so that when it's done up it doesn't cut into the mobo. Dificult to explain until you assemble it and look at how it's done up :)

So you dont use any plastic/nylon washer at all. I though that would earth the mobo

no m8

i've done countless RRod repairs and always used the same fleabay supplier, the only thing i found was that the sprung washer can dig into the mobo slightly but that is where a careful and patient disposition comes in handy ( and getting the washer up the right way )
