Open Tray Issue on Liteon

So I tried to flash my liteon last night and I messed up. During the key extraction the xtractor power dongle got loose and reseated and I think I blew the laser. I was able to extract the same key 2x so I think I am ok ot there, but after extracting the key i tried hooking it up to my 360 before going any further. It sees the drive but keeps saying open tray after I insert a dvd or game. Please advise

Check that the laser isn't out at the edge of the disc where there's no data. Some lite-ons do that for some reason the laser gets stuck out and can't move in. If its out just push it in with your finger and try to use it again and see will it read.

where should i position the laser near the middle of the drive or closer to the outside (opening of of the console)

i had the same problem
what you need to do is: put a game in your xbox and then turn your xbox off, then press the eject button take the disc out and push the tray back in ( do this as fast as you can ) then wait 10 sec. turn your xbox off. then turn it on again and put your disc in

right in at the motor spindle.

i posted a long winded post in leerage's 85830c tutorial. Basically i'm having a similiar problem with the open tray. i've seen benq drives go out whether it's the laser or whatever and do the same open tray message after a few seconds. have a stack of liteons that appear to flash correctly they just won't play disks after the flash. tried both things mentioned on one of the drives just desperatelty trying to find out why i keep getting this. will a bad key do this or should i try the laser approach. thank you any help would be appreciated

Bad key or wrong firmware = play DVD (to play this disc put it in an xbox 360 console) if it's open tray it cant read and a slight pot tweak usually sorts it if it only cant read copies.

i moved it to the motor spindle and still no luck i will try to flash it tonight. I am suprised this happened considering i only dumped the key and did not change the firmware

it's def the right firmware and process. they won't play anything original or backups. it sounds like the same sort of problem as jhiney except everything went smooth except for tray open part. if i have to mess with the pot is it on the reverse side of looking at the bottom of the drive where you probe it like it needs to be removed or can it be tweaked from the bottom. got a few of these and i will experiment just for the knowledge. thank you

It's at the back of the laser where you tweak, if it was reading originals and suddenly stopped then that's a bit odd make sure it lights up and same to jhiney.
But obviously look from an angle or check can you see it through the disc, don't look from directly above or you'll damage your eyes.

i'll try and be more clear. my situation is boxes that came back from repair center reading real games. after what appeared to be a successful flash it wont read anything. If you get to the dashboard does that elimate that you have a bad key?? thank you for any info tryin to get to the bottom of it before i crack any more open and deal with lasers or whatever needs to be done.

If you get to the dashboard, it doesn't necessarily mean it is a good key. There are some troubleshooting steps to determine that, however.
1.) The most definitive way is to hook back up to Jungle Flasher, redump the drive (WITHOUT OVERWRITING YOUR ORIGINAL DUMP), and see if it reports back with the correct key.
2.) When you put a game disc in (use an original), it will say 'Play DVD' if a drive key is not present. It will say 'Open Tray' if it is.
3.) Put an actual DVD in the drive. Even without a drive key, it should be able to play (I think!). If a DVD will play but a game won't, it is a drive key error. If neither a DVD nor a game will play, it is a laser or firmware error.

i tried flashing it 2x tonight no luck still says open tray for all media types.. i am thinking it is the laser as it makes 2 loud short grinding sounds when i insert a disc before sayin open tray again. I tried extracting the key again prior to flashing and it was the same one as earlier so i think i am good there.... i will let you know what happens when i get the new drive

i have a lite-on i got used on ebay thats doing the same thing. seller said bad dvd drive, it hasnt been opened as they are NO signs at all that is has been tampered with. i have a benq drive that should be here tomorrow or thursday that im going to replace it with, so ill let you know how that goes.

thanks sounds good I ordered a replacement lite on as well I will give it a shot if not take my losses and sell the console as is.
