I got an error when updating the new firmware 8002F149 (or old firmware, I haven't turn my ps3 on for a couple of months) now every time I restart the ps3, it starts the installation but then it crashes at 60% and gives me an error. I tried doing a hard reset, but the installation starts up before I can get the last beeps. called sony, they said I'm screwed, can't replace it because I replaced the power supply. now my question is, if I bought a new hard drive, could I get it to work again?
I've read about people upgrading the hd, and the instructions say I need to back up my hard drive, but its to late for that.
you DONT need to back up your harddrive. all backing up does is back up game data game saves music and video. if u dont backup its like starting new. you will lose everything but stuff you downloaded can be redownloaded and you can keep your online account as long as you know all the info for it. should work but i can say it will for sure
I just replaced the hard drive with a new one. but all I get is a blank screen. the hard drive light comes on for a second and then stops. I then hooked it to my computer and converted it to fat32 and it still won't show up
try connectin a usb stick with latest firmware which is 3.01 turn ps3 on then presss ps button and hold start and select together it shud ask you to reformat the drive
did you make sure its a SATA drive? and its 5400 rpm, and not higher then 500gb. and did u ever try putting the latest update on a usb stick, or if u did, did u retry the file, by downloading the update again, it could be a corupt file, redownloading can fix that problem
