I keep getting this unreadable disc error. So far 7 of my 9 burns have had this. I am burning AmazonBasics discs (wanted to see if they would work since they are cheap) at 2-2.4x with CloneCD. No book-type or any other settings changed. I opened the DVD file (not the ISO) with the correct layer break. Since 2 games work (ODST and Burnout), I am guessing it is not my 360 that is the problem. Is something wrong on how I am burning the games or is it because of the Amazon discs?

Thanks

It most likely has to do with cheap discs and too-slow burn speeds.

Burn the discs at their maximum write rate and see what happens.

I thought discs should be burnt at half their maximum speed?

What kind of drive is in your xbox?

Duck Tape is like the force. It has a Dark Side and a Light Side. And it holds the universe together.

Half max speed is a minimum rating... the slowest you should ever burn at. That doesn't seem to be the best speed in this case.

There is no speed set in stone about the speed to burn at, but, in general, you should burn at the max speed or just below max speed that the media is rated for.

So just to make sure, was there anything wrong with my burning process other than the speed? Should I have set book-type or another settings? If I need to, please tell me how.

I just burned at 4x using another computer because I was upgrading my better one to Windows 7. The game played perfectly. I think I will try at 4x again on my better computer. Then try max speed.

Thanks for your help.

I am not familiar with Clone CD, but when I use ImgBurn, I do not have to set any setting to anything other than default.

Don't you have to set layer break on ImgBurn?

So much for Dred's "2.4x speed is the only speed compatible for xbox 360" claim.

@ OP: You should get some verbatims, although the cheaper discs work, they will ruin your dvd laser.

It is actually my newer computer's burner's fault. Every burn done on the newer computer gave DRE but everyone one on my older computer has worked. I even burned a game on my older computer through file share with the game stored on the newer computer and my older computer still worked and the newer one did not. Surprisingly, my Dell XPS 435MT cannot burn 360 games but my Gateway GT5408 can. I realize it is just the drive that is causing the problem, but I would expect it to come with a good drive.

If I were to buy a new disc burner for my Dell, what should I get? I read that Pioneer drives are good for burning 360 games, but is there a certain model of it I should buy? I need a SATA drive.

Thanks for all your help. Glad I finally found what was the problem even though I wasted 10 discs.

I hate to be a dick, but there are literally 5, or more, threads asking this exact question ("Which burner?") and getting the exact same answers in the past week. The answers are definitely in this forum if you are willing to use the search function.
