So we really don't know why people have been banned. I played forza 2 weeks early, played a bad copy of lego batman, played night at the museum early, played unverified copy of rock band metal track pack, all while signed into live under a silver account, upgraded to gold about a month ago. I only bought a 3 month. But yeah I am thinking of pulling the plug on the network seeing everything is working on my console right now.

this is why you don't play games before they are released. Still doesn't make you safe.

All of you "regulars" are looking at this in the same way. Maybe somebody that doesnt have a horse in this race might see something from a different angle that you wouldnt see? ;-)

I agree.

So I think after Tuesday I am pulling the plug from Live. Why Tuesday? Cause Lego Rock Band is out and I want to export those songs. Then i'm just going to play offline and maybe next year when I have my own place i'll get another console to use online

The problem is that there is no pattern. This happens every time there's a ban wave and if there was a pattern, someone would have spotted it by now. However MS are detecting people - and my guess is that it's a combination of things that they look for - it's not an exact science.

I think these threads are largely pointless because it usually goes like this: -

Person A - "I think it's X that's causing the ban!"
Person B - "But I haven't done X and I'm banned!"

And it basically goes on and on like that, or you'll get people listing all kinds of info and you only have to read half a dozen posts to see that there are no common factors.

All you can really do is assume that the various ways that MS might detect you are true (the ones that aren't provably false that is) and use common sense to try and avoid them. Ripping your own originals (or only playing abgx360 verified games if you download them) and not playing before the release date seems to keep the majority safe, even if the odd one gets caught, yet we still have the same questions being asked over and over again. Some people don't take those precautions and they get away with it, but some people speed all the time and don't get a speeding ticket - it doesn't mean that it's a particularly good idea.

DING DING DING. You just won "Best Post Of The Thread".

funksoulb is right. This same crap has been going on since the first ban wave. That's why most of us regulars don't even posting in threads like this. It's a huge waste of space.

Eight pages of this thread alone could be cut out. It's useless posts of people saying they weren't banned. That info helps absolutely nothing. And you can see that 90% of the posts are newbies who'll come here, post once or twice, then leave.

And anyone who does bother to weed through these ump-teen pages of crap to read valid posts of those who were banned will find absolutely nothing by random console info.

There is no pattern.

You will only know if you're banned if you try and connect to Live and it says that your console has been banned. If you do try and connect to Live and that happens, then at that point the ability to install games will be disabled. If you haven't tried to connect to Live for a while, then you could be banned - you just don't know it yet - but you have to connect to Live and get the ban message in order for them to "flick the switch" in your dashboard that disables installs.
Thanx for the feedback, its been of great help.

One last question, tho.Lets say i have another console which is exactly similiar to my original console(flashed, never connected to live after flash, played some unverified backups,etc.).Will it be a valid assumption that the original console is permanently banned if installation fails on the other??

Hmmm, i wonder why? lol

Im willing to bet money that the people getting banned are saying they never played games unverified, prereleased, etc and its all bull. Im not saying that theyre lying, im just saying that along down the road one time they did make a mistake and just havent realized it. We gotta be perfect with the steps we take. OCD!!!!!

And its true, i started reading through all the posts here and its all skippable material. All the same blah blah. Lets leave this thread open for new developments but please no more noob theories.

I think M$ built a tiny night vision camera into the laser of the DVD drive so they can access it and see if it is a retail game or backup.

Sorry goyankees had to get 1 more theory in.

Yea, because we all know how long you've been on this site reflects your knowledge of console modding.

There you have two "high ranking" members of this site saying the new Lite-On drive (in June of 2008) would never be flashable.

No.

The install feature is only disabled on a console if and when you try and connect it to Xbox Live and you get a message saying that that console is banned - it's at that exact point that the install feature is disabled in the dashboard on that particular console. Even if that happened, you could still connect that hard drive to an unbanned console and it would function as normal. MS aren't doing anything to the hard drive. They are doing something to the dashboard to prevent you from installing games, but it only affects that banned console, and it only happens once you've have tried to connect that console to Live and you've received the "This console has been banned....." message.

Think about it - If you don't try and connect your console to Live, how could they possibly remotely disable the install feature? It's just not possible, so there is only one way that it can happen and that is by connecting that console to Xbox Live and finding out that you're banned.

You should due a little more research. Way back when that post was made, it was still believed that the LO drive used a "read-only" chip. So up until then, they were correct.

Can there be a poll of how many were banned. Actually it would be biased because most only come out of the woodwork when something bad comes along.

I've read through this whole thread as I am going to mod my 360 soon (I'm waiting for the USB Xtractor to come in for my Lite On)and I've thought this same thing about 7 pages ago.

I'll rep the upper members here because I've gotten so much helpful advice from these threads. Unless anyone gets a definite trend they notice (Instead of random things they don't notice) or anyone knows someone directly involved with M$ then it's probably best to go with the common precautionary measures for the time being instead of assuming wild conspiracy theories or pointing fingers without contributing anything useful.

And the same thing is happening now with these new Lite-On's. People are screaming and crying because most of them can't be flashed. Eventually, someone will find a way to do it.

Just as a point of interest, some people are saying they are rechecking their ODST, NFS Shift and Brutal Legend games with ABGX, and they are failing.

Is anyone who's banned rechecking their disks?

I have only rechecked a disc once because the buffer had dropped really low. Usually I let the computer do it's thing but I had to check an important e-mail. I should really start from here on out regardless.

Well, you can't call it the same thing. I haven't read anyone saying these new versions of the LO will never be cracked. But yeah, you're right, there will always be some who will complain that the team just doesn't work fast enough. That's just the nature of the web. Those who feel entitled will always come crawling out of the woodwork.

The iX team just has their hands full. They've got 2 new versions of LO drives and now wave 4 all within a short time span.
