not necessarily, i've seen that message up on their repair site before, simply call them up asking for repairs to find out if your banned, someone earlier said they were trying to get a repair when they called back and the m$ reps said they can't because they see your 360 is banned
yeah but what if i dont have red rings and they send me the box??? lol

@IMPACTA

I had spoofed drive both Hitachi. The banned console drive ws working for all games and i had problem reading most games on the unbanned one. THen before the ban hammer hit late oct, the unbanned RRODd. So the regualr stuff of getting the white box shipped to me by MS but when i got the box and just called their support to confirm the shipping back to them, they informed my xbox serial shows as tampered with and is no longer underwarranty and will be auto banned once i connect to LIVE. SO im getting it fixed and will keep it as an offline media player and game player and still be able to switch to my hopefully soon new MW2 360 bundle xbox. SO i will only play MP games on the new one and play all the SP player games on this one.

I got a white box shipped from Germany.. Followed up all the procedure and just before i was supposed to ship it i just called them to confirm about the shipping charges as they had not sent me the return awb the service rep told me that my console will not be reparied anymore cuz it is on the list of tampered consoles and if i connect to LIVE it will get banned.

Luckily i recently got the RROD fixed for 40$ and keep using it offline.

Honestly i dont think anyone knows. I have a friend or two that seem to be ok so far. they get games from torrents and abgx em. My opinion is that MS is gonna catch just about everyone this time around. Enjoy it while you can.

Morning All,

My brain is doing overtime on this one, but i just thought i'd ask the question. In my case i am almost certain i have played at least 1 or 2 dodgy rips (before i was educated). However i am contemplating buying myself a new 360 and going legitimate; My concern is my 120gb HDD.

I bought this from ebay 'new' it has all relevant warranty stickers. However my concern is, what if this is not a 100% cosher drive but a modifed unit, using the widely released HDD.ss bin. Could this cause a flag? Without taking my HD apart and downloading the ss.bin to compare i have no way of knowing.

Hope this makes sense?

thanks,
Don

It seems there is a way to check if your console is banned without having your hard drive, game saves or profiles mucked up but this MUST be done BEFORE your console is banned.

Follow this guide:
Unplug hard drive and/or memory unit,
Turn on 360 with ethernet cable/wireless plugged in,
Go to "system settings" in the dashboard,
Click on "Network",
Click on "Test Xbox Live Connection"
Wait for the results, if it asks you to update click CANCEL.
Click on "Y (Yellow)" to get the status report up on screen:

If the status reports the following you ARE banned:

W: 0000-0008
X: 0000-F001
Y: 00A8-6820
Z: 8015-190D (this line shows if your banned)
ID: 0008-0000

Any other code in the Z: line such as Z: 8015 - 1002 means you are NOT banned, the only code that means you are banned is Z: 8015-190D, that is the banned code.

If the status shows you are banned do NOT connect to live as it will muck up your hard drive, just stay offline, you will then still be able to install games on to hard drive and move your saves/profiles around as normal, the media extender *should* also work.

Also another way to see if your banned:
Go to xbox.com, click support and register your console for a repair, if it lets you do it you are NOT banned, if you get an error whilst trying to book in a repair your console IS banned. (this has been confirmed to work)

Also, if you are not banned make sure you backup all your important saves to a memory unit, even better backup your hard drive to your pc using xplorer360.

your first method has been conmirmed not to work, once it's connected, even testing you lose your features

Banned yesterday..

Flashed new 360 3 weeks ago. Played maybe 4 times total. All my own rips well after their release dates. From the USA. Flashed using CK3 Pro with probe on my LiteON.

Seems the banwave is still going. I thought it was over but oh well. I also bought a new 360 from the walmart deal as well as Modern Warfare 2. Sucks that I got banned but it's all good. No more flashing for me. It's too expensive..lol

I dont see how as your not connecting to anything. The connection SHOULD FAIL. When u hit cancel on the up date. It stops the connection and then you hit Y for the info in W,X,Y and Z. This DOES NOT HELP IF YOU ALREADY BEEN BANNED. Its before u actually get the ban notice. This method has saved 4 consoles that i know of to date. We still have all the functions of saving games and the profiles do not corrupt. But if u were to sign in with my HD and/or Memory Card. I will get the official this consoles been banned, and THATS when everything goes to shit.

I am still not banned, and I am not sure why. I'm in Texas, have a Hitachi using 1.51 and have been playing backups for some time now. The discs I use are from two people I know, plus some discs I have burned myself recently. Both of the individuals that I had gotten discs from in the past have been banned. The games that I burned myself came from a hard drive I borrowed from one these people. There have been a couple of discs that were given to me before that would not install to the hard disk because of errors. I would have thought that this would raise a flag for sure, but maybe that just appears to M$ as a scratched disc. I have played new releases like tekken 6, forza 3, and borderlands. All of which I have played while connected to xbox live. I have also never played anything before its release date.

The big question around this is: is this relevant? By this I mean I've kept offline since around the 7-8th November since the banning news hit big. Before this i was online infrequently from the 30th Oct for an hour or so every other day. No ban. Now I'm checking using this method and still displaying 1002 (allegedly OK/not banned).

This is moot in that if I assumed by this I'm ok, log in thinking all is good I reckon there is still a big likelihood when online for a few hours however they're doing this, I'll be banned.

Still as I mentioned before, I still have HDD functionality and am happy with single player until this blows over (it may take till january methinks). The news reports approx 600,000 users have been banned. There is no way on earth this is no calculated by Microsoft. 600,000 banned, even if half buy new machines in the knowledge it'll be hackable by Jan then it's a massive bump for there pre xmas earnings.
