I saw someone saying that they thought it was microsoft's recent update that was causing more bans as it has better detection whether your drive is flashed or not. This is not the case as I had one console banned for playing a ridiculous amount of burnt games online and now I have another console which I flashed the drive but do not play burnt games online anymore. Even though the firmware is still flashed, i'll play bought games online and no ban yet. I know if I was to play a burnt game online it would be all over for this console to go online. So they are definitely detecting it in many ways, not sure how exactly but it doesn't seem to be solely on just if your drive is flashed or not.

I agree, Personally im tired of all the theories we see on here as to why people are getting banned. Personally i think they send a miniature gnome through your ethernet cable, which then checks your warranty stickers(s), Or probes your motherboard on your drive, and runs back to M$ to tell billy G who's keeping him from making an extra billion $ or 2... seems the most logical.
"This console has been banned from Xbox LIVE for violating terms of service, Yada yada yada..."

i have a modded box, dunno what version (sorry :\) but i got it last december and the guy who sold it to me said it was the most recent version of firmware, whatever that was back then.
i've played online frequently since december and haven't had a single hitch.
plus, i was on live gambling with the new update last night, and facebook worked fine. no ban so far.

It used to be if you modded your gaming platform it would allow you to do a lot of different things outside of simply playing burnt discs. Now, from what I understand, all the mod does is allow you to play "backup" copies of your games -- which isn't such a big deal when you look at the game prices now. You are paying for mostly hardware!!
Examples of brand new prices below (not used or re-sealed)
DDR3 Universe With Pad - $25 - Rogers Video Store
Lips w 2 wireless mics - $15 - Rogers Video Store
Guitar Hero World Tour - $20 - Rogers Video Store
Kingdom Under Fire - $10 - Rogers Video Store
Rock Band 2 SE Kit - $60 - Staples / Business Depot
Now if you want to mod a system to get more features out of it, look at the mod for the Wii!!
Games are not cheap, they are still $59.99 plus tax. The games you mentioned are games no one plays or cares about, that's why they lowered the prices on them.
Go play with your Wii and have fun with that. It's not a real game console it is more of a kids game for beginners, just like the games you mentioned above.

ya i agree, those are games no one care about. Crappy games and old games that's why they sell it cheap. if XBOX 360 sell all their 360 games for 30 dollars or less, i will considerate buying the legit games..

I'm just so upset that the public school systems have apparently just said, "We just don't give a sh%t anymore."
Anyhow, it's not the ip address or otherwise people who now have 2 consoles (one modded, one not) would get banned on their new ones as well. I'm sure the ip gets flagged, along with the gamertag, for future possible bans. M$ can't just read the FW. I've been doing this stuff for a long time now and it takes more than a fancy program to do that...you need to physically access the drive. They can, however, test the drive and log the drive responses. These responses will differ from that of an un-flashed drive due to stealth checks, etc. This is the latest theory and, in my opinion, the most likely. This is what C4eva is working on fixing.
Brings me to my next point. People need to stop talking crap about how the new FW serves no purpose. Ya, people have gotten banned using a FW we all thought was safe, but if you really thought this would never happen then you modded your system under false beliefs. The current FW is only detectable because C4eva made it to where noobs could use it without screwing themselves by accident. The new FW will be much better for those of us who know what we're doing.
I heard some (possible) BS regarding the new IX LT being released next week....any actual truth to that? I only heard this and it is in no way verified, as far as I know. I'm assuming it's BS until I see it for myself.
Final thought, I hope everyone has heard that kreon fw needs an update. It is unable to detect SSv2 (which is what the new games use) and, therefor, creates a bad rip. Until a kreon updated fw comes out everyone should be using 360 drives with 0800 to do their rips. Someone else already posted this but I just thought I would remind everyone. Happy modding.

Hate to break it to you pal but they have physical access to the drive when it is connected to their motherboard that could be doing all kinds of checks and what not on it. If the key is tied to the motherboard that means that the motherboard can at least read the firmware that is on the board to ensure that the correct key is stored inside that firmware which shoots your theory down. If they want to read the firmware they can.

It is worthless for M$ to flag an IP, specially because every time you boot the modem, a new IP is given to you. A very common tactic used if you do not want to pay for a gold account in Rapidshare, and do not want to wait 15 minutes between downloads, just reboot the modem, and a new download can be done right away.

Kreon firmware has been making bad rips that look legit. I have high suspicions that this was one of the main reasons for the recent ban wave.
I have played nothing but Kreon rips and as of now my modded Xbox is still not banned.

Then it is just a matter of time. Kreon rips miss out on a lot of different angles and doesn't even see SSV2. If you check out the thread mentioned by qwert99, there are a few images there that compare a Kreon rip and a rip made by a drive flashed with the 0800 firmware. Now, we're not saying that this is the cause of the ban wave, but I think its better to play it safe by ripping with an 0800 drive.

Oh lawd did you really just say that? You deserve about 5400 facepalms
I'm hoping you know the "key" is really just used for encryption. If the key used to encrypt the data is incorrect in comparison to the mobo's key to decrypt, the motherboard will refuse to read it because it looks like garbage to it after it decrypts it, not because it somehow said "Hey DVD drive, does your key match this?". There is no "key reading" involved.
Good job on "shooting everyones theory" down though....I want to use a stronger term here but I don't want to get modded, so I will just call you an "pompous uninformed individual".

I have a modded xbox360. I have been playing off line cause when i do sign in i will get banned. Now my 360 has a red lite and says error 74. I can still send it back to get fixed but is that a good idea. Its still under warranty. Will they be able to see that its modded or can any trouble come out of it.

I remember reading about a way to see if MS has flagged your console. It had something to do with the network connection test and all that? Anyone have an idea if this is true?

Okay,
Here's the dealio... I just got banned, for whatever reason, I shalln't mention here.
Regardless, can the XBOX operate at a good enough temperature, that I can just stick it in a drawer near my TV (to kill the sound from my now uninstallable games), or can I just buy a nice new arcade for £100 or whatever (Yes I'm British, I'm ashamed too!!), never hook it up to my ethernet, and install my games once more?
Every one of my friends has a PS3 because they can't stand the noise, I used to tell them to get an XBOX, and install them... Now we might as well all play PS3... They don't make you pay for online gaming, that should be a right, not a privilage IMHO, *bleep* YOU M$, greedy bastards!!
Either way, can I save myself £100 ($200) and just adjust a drawer a little to accommodate wires to cope with *C, so I don't have to put up with that awful DROANING noise?
Thanks a bunch peeps!!
