Just wondering as I can't install games to the hard drive anymore or play ones that were installed to the hard drive.

I can save games to the HD but nothing else on it.

Banned systems do not lose hard drive functionality.

Edit- Well it looks like Microsoft has definitely done something with banned consoles.

Seems like they might now. Saw other people having issues on another forum as well.

MS definitely stepping up their game. And I was met with derision when I thought the new trend of banning gamertags for pre-release play was a disturbing new indication of MS stepping their game up. Wish I would have been wrong.

Ok... I´m not connecting to live again... :/

At least until someone find a way to restore hard drive functionality.

Really, can they do that? Banning is one thing, but that goes against the law. The EULA states that they can cut youre live privileges, but making youre hd stop working... You bought that hd for it.

Too sleepy and pissed to elaborate more in english, but if it happens to me I´ll sue them.

That might actually work in Europe. In the US nobody cares about consumers enough for that to happen.

yes it has lost the function. i even tried a reflash of the hd to see if that would work but it seems that it is something that gets logged on your xbox when you get banned.

So aside from it being a giant memory card now, what else can you do with it? Like store videos on it or anything with some hack?

It already seemed pretty useless before when it was working and now it's not it seems like something that should be put on ebay. =)

im pretty sure it hasnt lost the ability to install games. (it's the xbox that was banned that has lost that ability.) Try the same hard drive with another console.

Yes, that was inevitable. I should have continue lurking so I wouldn´t have to respond to this.

The EULA states that xbox Live is a privilege, and that it could be taken away whenever M$ wanted to. Not in this words of course, but thats what they meant. So I modify the console they take live away from me. I knew this when I bought the console, I knew this when i modified it. It was part of the contract. I accepted it.

Now, I didn´t knew that my xbox with a 120 gb hd i bought legally and payed import fees would loose some of its basic functionality. They sold me a game system that could install games to its hdd (and charged acordingly) without never ever saying they would/could take it away.

I havent payed for live. I pay for it monthly if so I choose, and this right could be taken way from me. Now I ALREADY BOUGHT THE HDD. And now they make it useless.

It´s not weed I bought. I bought a legal product. And they voluntarily made it stopped working.

Even If I had done something illegal with it (with I didn´t), they damaging it (it stopped working, therefore damaged it), would be what we call here "making justice with youre own hands", with happens to be a crime in my legal system. I could but wont mention the article on the penal code so no one finds out where I´m from (kinda paranoid).

Removing Live access is a right, acquired by contract (EULA), even thou in courts here is questionable, since I really didn´t had an option to argue about that.
Now if they think I´ve done something wrong and whanna punish me any other way they must use the legal system. And boy... They´re in for a ride if they do...

Your hard drive still works if you get banned. Nothing about the hard drive itself changes. The dashboard feature that allows you to install games to the hard drive no longer works if you get banned. MS have the right to add or remove dashboard features at any time. You would not stand a chance of winning a court case.

Not only can you use the same cc info, you can still use your profile. Its your console that has been banned. Jusr put your hard drive on another console. Or recover your gamer tag.

i agree with inalbis on this, they cannot modify features of a console you own without telling you before hand. M$ doing this is the same thing as going to someones house and bricking files on their computer

So, they can change the dashboard feature of, say... loading games? And you would be fine with it?

But I see the stunt theyre pulling. The ability to install games to the hdd came with an early update, didn´t came the console, at least for old owners. So they can say its xbox Live related therefore covered by EULA. But NO ONE buys a 120 hdd to store save games...

As Manu07 noted earlier, the hard drive works fine on other systems that aren't banned. It's only flagged to not work on your banned 360. So regardless of reinstalling the update, it'll be noted as banned and non functional except to save games or rip music cds atm.

Microsoft have definitely done something strange

See my earlier thread
http://forums.afterdawn.com/t.cfm/f-152/..._update-811019/

I've spoken to them today and they weren't really interested in the console itself just where the hard drive came from. kept asking me what the serial number was, of the orginal console the hard drive came from. As this hard drive came from an 2005 console I said there was no chance of it still working so i'd chucked it out. They didn't seem to like that.
Anyway they couldn't answer the problem and are getting back to me tomorrow with an answer. We'll see what they got to say then!
