Are your DMA and ASPI settings in good order?

It could also be a device or driver interrupting the rip or possibly a packet writing app interfering. Try shutting down everything you know you don't need running using Task Manager then try ripping again to verify whether this is the case.

Hope this helps :)

No problem.

Here's alink for ASPI:

http://cd-rw.org/articles/archive/aspisetup.cfm

And one for DMA:

http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/hwdev/tech/storage/ide-dma.mspx

Try these first and if your problem still persists, we'll go from there :)

Hello partner! I just tried what you told me and DVD Decrypter is not working properly giving me errors!
What else it could be?

Thanks for your time!
is there any freeware to burn stored ISO files to blank dvd-r media other than DVD Decrypter?
oR maybe could I have installed in my computer that doesn't allow DVD Decrypter to work properly?

THis thing is tearing me appart!

Thanks expert!!!!

There are a few possibilities that may be causing the problem. Try them one at a time, not all at once :)

Can you give me some system specs? Burner model/firmware version, amount of RAM etc. What brand/type of media have you been using?

Double check that your hard drive is in DMA mode and that it is defragged.

Roxio Easy CD Creator can cause problems with other burning apps. If you have it, try uninstalling it, reboot then try Decrypter again.

Packet writing software, when running, such as InCD or DLA can interfere. If you have any of these, either disable them or try uninstalling them, reboot then try Decrypter.

Open Task manager (Ctrl+Alt+Delete), go to the Applications tab and make sure nothing else but Decrypter is running. Don't try to multitask while burning - just leave it be.

I know I threw a lot of stuff at you here but take your time and check them out. I'll be watching this one for when you get back :)

Just for giggles and grins you might pick up a couple of Verbatim (Metal Azo preferably) discs and give them a whirl. Princos aren't the greatest media and may be giving your burner fits trying to write to them :)

Hey partner! thanks a lot for all your advice regarding this matter.I will follow your advice about changing the media.I just got DVDCLONE, and the drive ejected saying "error 9 probably caused by a bad medium" I think I purchased 100 deffective discs. What a shame! Princo's are definitely one of worst media.
I think that's the problem I encountered with DVD Decrypter, because some disc did record but most of them were wasted away!

What's your recommendation about working with ISO files or VIDEO TS FILES,what is the advantage of ISO files?

Thanks for all your time helping me out!!!

Hey buddy,

ISO's can be advantageous because Decrypter can burn them on it's own without needing a different burning app like Nero or RecordNow. Shrink can output to an ISO as well for later burning with Decrypter.

One pitfall of using Decrypter in ISO mode is that if, for example, you have a movie that you want to re-author in Shrink and it's an ISO, Shrink won't be able to open it for re-authoring because it's one big fat ISO and not a collection of separate files that can allow you to remove specific ones.

I mainly use file mode because I have both Nero and RecordNow to do the burning but Decrypter does an admirable job burning ISO's.

Sounds like you're another victim of the Princo's siren song :) If you've only used a few of that 100 pack, I'd contact the place you bought them from and ask for some sort of refund. Let them know they're junk and won't work in your burner. They might pro-rate your refund depending on how many you've used but seeing how they're useless anyway, some money back would work well towards a spindle of Ritek G04's!

We're going to get you burning soon, partner!

The thing with Memorex is that they buy from different manufacturers and slap their name on it. They've been known to use RICOHJPN, which is very good, as well as CMCMAG which is junk so you never know what you're getting.

-R is generally regarded as being the most compatible but with the newer players the gap is pretty small anymore. I started out burning +R and in the course of playing my copies in eight or so different players, all different makes/models mind you, only one wouldn't play +R but then again that one wouldn't play any burned discs. You can check to see if your specific player has any trouble with either format here:

http://www.dvdrhelp.com/dvdplayers

Let me know how it goes with those Riteks :)

What's up partner! Im just letting you know that I GOT 100 pck ritek dvd-r 4x and they work fine, though, sometimes decrypter gives a message saying " the semaphore time has expire" don't you think it's the LITE ON driver?
although it gives that message, it burns the movie to the end but why the reason of that error message??

any clues?

Thanks

Flanker,

I just got that semapore time expired message last nite. After 2 tries it did burn and it plays fine in my stand alone. I have a lite on external burner and using the last of my fuji dvds before I buy riteks. To be honest I have had no probs with the fuji. But I would like to know more about the semapore message.

thanks,
sher

THanks Sher!
I have an external LITE ON LDW-411S
Had serious problems with PRINCO MEDIA!
Minor problems with ODNITECH or something like that.
Have had no problems at all with MEMOREX manufactured by RICOPHJ whatever.Definitely that error is caused by media incompatibility! waiting currently for Riteks on its way to me!

Nephilim is a good adviser on this!
I personally took his advice and he's right !
The RICOPJH something like that are good disks
The other manufacturer Memorex also buys from it's junk media!
it's like a box of chocolate! Forrest Gump!
never know what are you goint to get!

His advice it's to go straight for the RITEKS!

Thanks for taking a time of your own to help!

Hiya,

As per the "semaphore timeout", here's a thread where Xian explains what it is - scroll all the way to the bottom :)

Hi Nephilim,

Thanks for that link.. at least now I know what the timeout means. just a thought..since I only have the external burner and no internal dvd rom drive, do ya think the time out could be caused by the fact that I can't immediately go to copy..since I must take out source disc and install blank..maybe that 5 sec interval causes a lost communication? what ya think bout that? sometimes i hate the way I over think things.hmmmmm
