im not here for any card sharing or anything- just information..

when the "FTA" Cable boxes die.. (which is already beginning to happen sadly) - is the way to go Satalite?

if so:
1) What box to buy? (I love nokia dbox2 on cable..)
2) Should i go HD? - not bothered about the money..
3) What dishs.. Motors etc..

The only thing thats doing me here is.. When i put the dish up..
Where does it face?
How do i get it right?
etc etc..

I was once a newbie on cable.. now im quite good..
Now im a TOTAL newbie to satalite.. (easy to learn though..)

Any help appreciated.. whats needed.. is it the way forward.. etc!!

cheers, mike.

im in your boat aswell and at the moment satellite seems to be our only option. I decided to try it out myself so got a dreambox 500s and connected to old dish read a few tutorials and managed to get it up and running. My only advice to ya is get stuck in to some tutorials and all will be revealed (i might still have links to good ones on other computer so when i get a chance i will see and try send them on) remember satellite aint hacked so you'l still have a subscription (but better value) and if you going motorized you'l have a better variety to, but still aint free so keep that in mind.i got a cheap box to get the jist of it i now plan on getting a hd one- most sharers etc have hd channels so no harm in it.

hi sitja thanks for the reply!

great news so is it easy enough to set up?
i understand that it isnt free - altough there is "CS" for the boxes

so it would actually be free i think..
im not willing to do it to pay for something - i know you may think cheapo - but there is a way of doing it without paying with the CS method, its just actually getting into a ring of people or community who will accept you into it and share.

well yes there is that method but look into it and logically think... no one wants to give nothing away for free... its more on the bases you get what they have and they get what you have (so if you aint got nothing you might find it a bit hard to get in there). Second option is you start up a server you set up a couple of friens or whatever and charge them low prices and when it adds up you pay the bill with there money so still technically free but with the hassle. Im no genius but managed to have it up and running in one evening anyone with a bit of savvy in this stuff you'l pick it up quite handy, so far i have got test c lines to see how it works, some servers can freeze and shit so can be annoying but its good to try tests to make sure its all working first anyway.

is that how it works really? - didnt think it was that much hasle!!!

ive not even looked into it properly yet tbh - just looked how to set the actual box up n the satalite dish - not into the background information!!

maybe its too much of a ball ache?

well thats my opinion on it im only in it recently enough to. from forums and things ive read it seems that way, some other dudes were clueless to and asked all those questions previously so just read the answers and thats what it seems like.. you obviously need broadband on constantly to do it to. if ya had a few friends who are clued in aswell it would be fine to set up a cs, even if you had to pay, its better to pay 70 to 80 euros between ye and have all sports, movies and kids rather than paying on your own.!

Some boxes you can get are plug and play. And clear plenty with a motorised dish. So you take out of box load latest firmware from supporting site and away you go. Although I'd steer clear of the Predator for the moment. If you don't want the headache of setting up yourself.
