I just got a 360 and it does not play games but will play movies??? when i insert a game, it says to play this game please insert it into an xbox 360. please help...Thank you

Eh, if it's pre-summer update, there might be a chance. Look into the jtag hack, but I don't know if there's been any development there. Post-summer update, you're f'd.

Never Mind, just looked at what i had to do. I think i like my new DVD player. I only payed $35 for it anyways with a power brick.

?????Confused???? my 360 just played Rockband-- then i changed the settings to HD and now it is giving me the same error. I put on Star Wars (Movie) and plays that fine. Will try to see if it plays rockband in a little bit. Could it be my laser?? Also it is playing the movie real quiet can even hear it, but when i was playing rockband it sounded like it was going to take off flying. Any ideas or help will be appreciated. Thanks for the info.

Just took of the HD and now it is playing rockband, plus it is hovering off the table--Thing sounds like a jet plane!!!!!!

DVD drive fail. $100 MS fix or buy one on ebay for $30-40 and flash it.
PS3...it only does everything(that Sony allows it to)

Yea it sucks. Happened to my elite. Would be an easy fix but I dont have a PC to flash a new drive I only have a laptop. I just use it for dvds and netflix streaming.
PS3...it only does everything(that Sony allows it to)

Got my 360 working again and it is quiet again. So for all who are having similar problems (but would probably not read because most people do not like to search before they ask questions--so i guess this is for you Afterdawn addicts to respond to noobs like me)
First i fix the three red lights of death to my surprise the drive did not work. Heck this thing looked like it fell in mud!! so i cleaned it the best i could.
Opened the drive and clean it by using Endust (electronic duster)
On the laser lens i cleaned it using a q-tip and Wii lens fluid cleaner. Be very carefull!!!!!!!!!!!!
On the lens motor i greased it using liquid wrench silicon spray lubricant--do not spray it--use a q-tip.
turned on system and played a Game, if game does not work put on a movie and then when the drive is spinning use Endust to spray inside DVD Drive.
For me this worked i am able to play rockband on normal and HD now, plus my 360 is not making the jet noise it was doing before. I actually thought i broke it because all of a sudden if became so quiet i thought it stopped working. Hopes this help atleast one other person.

Well it all depends on what is wrong with the drive sometimes cleaning the lense and greasing the motor will only fix it temporary. In some cases its a magnetic problem to where cleaning and greasing will do nothing. The drive does not spin fast enough to read games and reads only dvds. Or it could be heat issues or laser issues. Its all different depending on what drive you have.
Lets just hope your 360 dvd drive is just dirty. Trust me Iv done research and cleaned and greased mine numerous times and it still fails.

You can flash dvd drives with laptops. Or you could switch out the PCB board.

I have a 14' Vaio which is tiny and too complicated to mess with plus I dont wanna open it and void my warranty.
