Im looking for someone to help me if possible, whether this has happened to you before or you just know how to fix, please help!
Starting from the begining, I recently purchased a Seagate 1TB External Desktop Drive. I then wanted to use it to put music, videos, photos on etc so I could then plug it into my PS3 & access files from it.
I tried to start with but obviously knew nothing about this FAT32 formatting, so I jumped on the internet and found this site explaining it all (sort of). I then followed to steps to "re-format" my HD as I have Windows XP I downloaded SwissKnife.
Everything seemed fine when I did the "re-formatting" and after created folders (music, photos, games, videos) BUT then disater struck. Put some songs on the HD (so i thought i did) plugged into PS3 and the PS3 recongised the "USB DEVICE" but nothing was in it. I then unplugged and plugged into computer and nothing! My computer wont recongise it now and SwissKnife just freezes when i try it with HD plugged into it.. PLease help as I have no idea what to do next!
You have to use the "safely remove hardware" icon down by the clock...otherwise windows will not actualy write anything to the drive untill it feels like it (I don't know why it does the "copy files" dialogue...but they seem to have finaly fixed this for windows 7)
I did use the "safely remove hardware", that is one of the things I know to use. But now my computer wont recongise my HD. Its like I have reversed what was wrong before. First the HD wouldnt be recongised on the PS3 and then as I said above I formatted my HD and now my PS3 recongises it but my computer wont, nothing pops up, nothing in "my computer" when its plugged in...
Hmmm...does it still show up in "administrative tools>computer management>disk management"?
You might give "EASEUS Partition Master 4.0 Home Edition" a try...it is free, and is a lot more user friendly than SwissKnife...this might work better for you.
If it does not show up in disk management, you have a hardware issue. Are all the plugs tight? Is the power light on? If yes for both, try a different USB port (front ports are often problematic for faster devices such as hard drives), or even a different USB cable if you have one.
Have tried all of the above and nothing!! HD is fine cause it works on my PS3. Just wont come up on my computer like it was before, ever since I re-formatted it.
