I just bought an RROD console with a custom case that I was told was modded. I put in a regular store bought game and it worked fine. How do I check if the system is actually modded? I prefer that it not be so is there any way I could just restore it without the original key but a fully functional drive? By the way, it's a Hitachi drive made in 2005. It's been out with the red ring for a long time because after I fixed it and turned it on, I noticed the old dashboard on it.

You can try a backup game and if see if it plays it. If not, connect the drive to your PC and dump the firmware to know for sure.

I'm against Piracy so I'd rather not download a game just to see if my system is modded. My computer also doesn't connect to Xbox 360 drives, I already tried that. Can I copy my existing 360 game?

I have an Xbox 1 with XMCB. Can I use that to copy my existing Xbox 1 game?

Sorry, double post.

The xbox1 game isnt worth the hassle.

As its just the one 360 game you need to copy, would recommend the wxRipper method, theres plety of tutorial on how to do it. Make sure you stealth check and burn correctly as per the instructions in the ultimate sticky.

When did I say anything about piracy? You can copy your XBOX 360 game with a Kreon drive or a 360 DVD drive with 0800 firmware.

Edit- Sorry, I misread your post.

You can copy an XBOX 360 game with a Kreon DVD drive or a 360 DVD drive. Miketrev mention the wxripper method but you would have to use ABGX to patch it correctly.

You didn't but I just said that I didn't want to download games because I assumed that was the only way to get Xbox 360 games.

You used an original to test the console right?
1. Download a copy of that particular game (seeing as to how you own it).
2. Check it against AGBX360.
3. Burn the ISO to a DVD+R DL.
4. Test it in the Xbox 360 to see if it works.
5. Discard the downloaded ISO and burned DVD+R DL.
I wouldn't consider that to be piracy.

Well, I had a backup copy of I believe GH Aerosmith laying around since my original is shot and the Xbox 360 said "Play Game" but it didn't say the name of the game. I played the game and it said "Disc Unreadable". I'm using Nexxtech DVDs. I don't know if the game ever worked, I just had the copy but ended up buying a new disc. Now the system played a movie fine that was recorded on the disc.

The drive is modded if it will even see a backup game as a game at all, as far as I know.

At this point there is no reason to flash it back to stock firmware as any potential banning 'damage' that has been done is already done.

If you really must flash back to stock, which there is no point in, you can grab the drive key from the modified firmware. It will be flash just fine.

And actually, I would recommend against any re-flashing that you don't absolutely have to do with a Hitachi drive, as Hitachi drives are easily brickable. If the flash fails, your Hitachi is dead forever.

Well, it can access XBL so I'm assuming that it's safe as long as originals are played.

Most likely correct. We can't know for sure exactly how MS bans consoles, but it is a very safe bet that MS cannot detect modified firmware in any way. They can most likely only detect when backup games do funky things, not the drive itself.

Thanks. This was a great help. Now I can be sure it's Modded when I sell the console.

On second note, I tried the game in a stock console and it said "Play DVD" so qwert99, you were right.

Thanks again.
