I was curious to know something about the banning going on lately. I wanted to grab the cod 5 and play alittle of the campaign mode before i get in next monday night. So hers my situation. I have an unmodded and a modded box. I only have one harddrive that I share between them both. So say i do finally get the cod5 thats been around the net, could i just change the time on my modded box to say sometime next week and save and just not connect the hd back to the unmodded box until after its released and i have the retail disc in hand. Im not really sure how everything works with game saves from acopied disc work in general anyway.

Is that how people are getting banned? having saves from a game that isn't even out yet or being stupid and actually trying to play it on live.

No one knows how they detect those that are banned.

If you ask me your just asking for trouble playing games early. If your concerned that your going to get banned then wait until the official release date. As well scan your games with ABGX to make sure they pass stealth checks (make sure ABGX verifies with their online database). Even then you still have the possibility of being banned.

Asking how M$ detects modified systems is pointless since no one knows wirh 100% certainty. But following the above tips will give you the best possibility to avoid a BAN when playing games that are modified.

Seriously. I don't get the obsession with playing pre-release games. You really can't wait another week or whatever to play? REALLY?

And those are the same people who act like they have no idea why they were banned when they inevitably are.

i don't know why your focusing on this, when during the ban wave plenty of people got banned and they didn't play games early. its not the reason people are getting banned.

playing a game early offline, is fine as long as you dont log back into live until the game is released. i say its fine simply for the fact that ive done it plenty of times, and im still unbanned

therefore its not the reason people get banned.

do it, but at your own risk, because as people have stated, we have no idea at the moment what microsoft look for in these bans, its just pure speculation

I'm not obsessed with playing. Just wanted to take a chance at the single player mode. I probably won't touch it once I get on the multiplayer. Also there's nothing else out ATM that I'd rather play.

Well, actually, we do have an idea of what MS looks for in bans, just no official word.

Playing a pre-release game early, if it is a completely perfect rip of a legit retail game, is okay in 99% of cases.

The problem is that nobody knows what the 'completely perfect, legit' retail game looks like before it is released. Many times review copies, for writers, or early release copies, for testers, will be leaked to the internet early. MS can detect these as being different and ban your ignorant arse.

If you are not banned yet, it is because you got lucky and the rips you played HAPPENED to be legit. That won't be the case forever and your ignorance of how the system works and outright obstination against learning about it will be your consoles downfall. But hey, you obviously are an educated guy on these issues.

The exact reason why I also said to scan your games with ABGX to make sure they pass stealth checks (make sure ABGX verifies with their online database).

ABGX data base usually will not have verified files for the game until release date or after.

Yep. Exactly. You are right, my friend. We are on the same page. That is why pre-release gameplay, even offline, is a fool's errand. But hey, Shockface is an expert, after all.

Did i claim to be an expert? No

Have i played pre release games for at least 3 years? Yes

Have i been banned No

I source my games well, i check them though abx, and i am probably as careful as i possibly could be.

Does this mean i wont get banned? No of course not, the risk is always there, however playing pre releases early, is no more so a risk than anything else at the present time.

I have never played a pre release game that did not verify with abx. Ever, and i have no intentions of starting to do so.

I had to play this game as soon as it came out, its far to tempting not to.

Not me. I know the risks and have a seprerate xbox for early releases. I even used the MF2 rip with the bad SS.

Not even gonna bother trying to log on to live with it, as they must of flagged me and I dont want to lose the install to HDD function.

I am not sure you know what it means for a game to be verified by ABGX.

As long as you understand the risks and still do it, that is completely different, as far as I am concerned. If you don't care about banning, then it doesn't matter. I have friends that will play/patch any game because they don't care, and that's cool.

The people I am referring to are the oens who swear like because they unplug their ethernet cord while playing an unverified rip of a pre-release game they will magically be safe.

Since they never verify before they are released no kidding

They do verify before releasing, as ive verified plenty of games before the official release date. Get it right.

Quite often retailers ship games earlier than the release date. When this happens, the game gets verified earlier, hence a verified pre release.
