Hi guys,

i posted this initially over at xbox hardware forum here and realised too late that its probably not the best place for it. Apologies for the cross post, was an unintentional bump.

Am hoping to get some confirmation on info i got from a local mod 'guru'. Some of the things he said didnt gell so im hoping you guys can confirm/ deny/ advise.

* I have the Liteon DG-162S V1.
* Bought the CK3 probe and connectivity kit.
* Flashed using Jungleflasher 1.67.
* FW is iXtreme-thx 1.6 Liteon. (ix16-liteon-repack.bin)
* Flash was succesful.
* Tested fine playing backup and originals.
* Kids played a handful of backup games and one of them (prototype i think) wanted to update the console.
* Update worked fine.
* kids played games all night.
* went to play games this morning and they got E71 as xbox tries to load the dashboard. Red light on the lower right sector.
* have tried all the suggested fixes to no avail(re-connecting cables, removing HDD, reseting dashboard using the sync trick, pressing Y on the controller during startup).

Called a local mod guy who said a few things:

1) Because of motherboard chipset, Liteon didnt flash properly during the write process and has subsequently dropped the key. I know a little about electronics and this is hard for me to believe.

2) Because i used ixtreme 1.6 and a wave4 game, the console has been bricked. Should have used 1.61.

3) 1.61 wont be released to the public and only to a select group of people. Says he already has 1.61 and can install a new Liteon DVDROM with 1.61 installed.

4) The motherboard retains memory of which hardware has been installed and what DVD keys have been used.

Can you guys please comment, confirm or deny any of these things? Have done lots of reading and not come across any of this info so not sure if its legit or whether he just wants my $$ to install a new DVDROM.

Is it worth reflashing the drive? I have saved the original DVD Key.
Or perhaps trying a new drive myself (maybe one of those BenQ's i see on ebay?)

Will that fix the E71 error? From what ive read, E71 can mean a few things.

Can you guys suggest any other way to rectify the E71 fault?

Thanks for reading this far :) Wanted to give you as much info as possible. Would greatly appreciate any advice. Pretty please?

Via my kids, my sanity is in your hands :)

Cheers and kind regards.

Na, the drive wont "drop" the key when its flased.

Wouldnt brick the console, just wouldnt boot

Lies, unless he is one of the testers which I very much doubt based on his comments above.

Possible, but not related to your issue/

Unpug the drive from SATA and see if your xbox boots, if it does its a drive issue.

Hope this helps

Thanks heaps for the response mate. Legend.

Ill unplug and give that a go. Should i expect another hardware error code since the SATA drive is unplugged?

Cheers again. :)

Removing the drive made no difference.

Any other suggestions?

if you have saved your original firmware try flashing it back to the drive and see if it will play an original.then if its ok re flash the drive.

Thanks mate.. will give that a go.

Is the original firmware saved automatically by jungleflasher? Besides the dummy.bin, I have the other files that were created during the flash process with JF - is key.bin the original firmware? I take it the rewrite of original firmware is the same as the upgrade method? Will read the JF tutorial on this one.

Hope it works :)

Really appreciate the assistance guys. Beers at my place tomorrow night :)

Peace.

go into Jungle Flasher under the FirmwareTool 32 tab... Open Source Firmware... choose the dummy file... When it asks you to Auto Load Lite-On ixtreme choose yes... at this point make sure the keys match from the original FW and the hacked FW..... now either SAVE TO FILE and save the hacked FW and flash it in DOS or proceed to MTK FLASH tab in Jungle flasher and flash it..

Bugger. Thanks for the heads up. So my next bet would be to put a new DVD drive in and flash it with my old key?

you could use your key,inquiry and dummy bin files to create a firmware in jungleflasher and try re flashing the drive.even if you try an older firmware first.ie iextreme 1.5 then once that works ok then try reflashing with a newer firmware.iextreme 1.6 would not boot a wave 4 game without the activate.iso disc so that should not have caused the problem unless you played a game early on live.have you got a hard drive on the system?if yes try removing it it may have failed.
