I've sent in 2 systems to MS that had the RRoD. One was within the 3 year warranty period and the other was not. They replaced both with no problems. However now I have one, with the 3 RRoD, and have entered the serial number and have it registered to me. When I requested a 3 RRoD repair it's asking me for my credit card information and showing that it would cost 99.00 dollars.
So what I want to know is if there is a chance that they will fix it and not charge me the 99.00 or is it pretty safe to assume that if they are asking for credit card info that they know they will charge you no matter what. With the previous fixed systems they never asked for my credit card info so this has thrown up a red flag. I know some members have sent in numerous systems and was wondering if they've had to enter in their info but not been charged for fixes.
I've already done everything I can and the only alternative to sending it to MS is having the board reflowed so please don't suggest to replace x-clamps, pennies, heat guns, or the hybrid fix.
Thanks in advance!
they will more than likely charge you. however, i know a friend of mine use to just get those visa prepaid cards. he would put something like 10 20 bucks on them, and use them to ship packages around, since they would only check to see if the card was active and had funds on it. little did they know that the 200 dollar shipping charges wouldnt have been paid.

You can take the risk they won't charge it, but I would say you're going to be paying the fee unless you tell them to send it back, then you get charged for the return postage.
If you're doing it over the xbox website, try calling in and just saying you can't enter your serial number on the website...I ended up calling four times, but got a rep that processed my RRoD repair over the phone, had to tell her the website was 404'd (down)
I think it says 07/2006 I'll have to check on it when I get home.
But the last one I sent in was 09/2006 and didn't have any problems sending it in 10/2009. Although I'm sure that system only had one owner before I got it while I'm not sure of the history of the one in question.
