I had someone else flash my benq drive to 1.51 but have decided to take the plunge and upgrade it to 1.61 myself. I've gone over all the guides and videos so I am pretty ok with it but I've come across a problem. I load up Jungleflasher and I select the I/O port with my drive on it but I keep getting the following message

"the drive on I/O port xxxxxx has windows drive letter D:\ assigned to it. This may cause read back issues. Do you wish to disable D:\.

I have selected no but the just returns an error in jungleflasher. I have tried this on XP and a fresh install on Windows 7 32 bit. I am using the SATA port on my motherboard which is a Asus Rampage Formula. Is this the problem, should I buy one of the Sata pci cards. Any help on this would be gratefully appreciated

Are you sure you are selecting the correct drive? If you are not absolutely sure, you may want to disconnect your other DVD drives, just to be sure that you are not getting the info from those drives accidentally. If you were to flash them with the firmware you are using, you could perma-brick them.

Go ahead and disable the drive. If it messes things up you can always re-enable it from Device Manager.

I only have a dual layer burner that runs off SATA the others are IDE and I have unplugged it, everything else on SATA is hard drives so I'm 99% sure it's the xbox drive showing up.

Okay, good.

Another option is to use the Firmware Toolbox program. It is an easy to use, straight-forward program, and a lot more stable than JF. JF has more features, but sucks for stability.

Ok thanks for that qwert I'll look into the firmware toolbox, is there any guides knocking about that show how to use it?

I am not aware of any guides that specifically relate to Firmware Toolbox. However, the guides for Jungle Flasher all generally apply to Firmware Toolbox. The process is the same; just the exact buttons/menus are different.

If I am having trouble with a drive, I will also sometimes use both JF and FWTB. For instance, JF has a nice, easy-to-use interface for creating new modified firmwares which include DVD keys. So I will use JF to create my modified firmware, save it somewhere safe, and then use FWTB to flash that modified firmware to my drive.

Ok I've been looking around at guides and the tutorial that came with firmware toolbox and the only reference is to Hitachi drives, so can it only be used on these drives as I have a Benq so it wont be much use. Also I got the SATA adapter just to see if was my onboard ports and I'm now getting a different error when I click Benq unlock it comes back with "Benq unlock command returned an error". There is very little on the net about this error so has anyone got any ideas as this is so frustrating because I took at least a week to read over everything and watch loads of videos on the benq drive and to the best of my knowledge I'm doing everything correctly. What is Iprep like to use, I not used to working in DOS so I'm a little apprehensive about using it.
