Sorry if this has been suggested already. Simple question: Has anyone here who got banned NEVER played a Wave 4 game? Since it's still unclear as to what they're using to ban burning this wave, maybe Wave 4 is the key? I haven't played one Wave 4 game and I have survived. My friend has also not played any Wave 4 games but played both ODST and Forza online prior to release (stupid, I know) but he's still not banned.

It's definitely not a wave 4 specific thing, because people that have played wave 4 games have been banned, and people that haven't played any wave 4 games have also been banned.

Again, just my theory. I say this because of a few things. First, we start seeing wave 4 games and then a week or so later the ban hammer drops. Also, the ban hammer seemed to start literally right after the last mandatory update. Yeah, MS said that it was only for wireless support, but come on. Are they honestly going to tell us that it is also going to include new detection? The rule of thumb has always been "only MS knows what will get you banned" Yet the minute someone chimes in with a theory, people say "nope, that's not it." All I know is that I haven't been banned and I have never played a wave 4 back-up. Also, why are so many quick to rule out activate.iso as a red flag to MS? This is not out of the realm of possibility.

Here's proof:
- I have played a wave 4 game before the ban hammer
- I have used the activate disc to play that wave 4 game
I am not banned from xbox live
hence wave 4 =/= Microsoft's detection scheme
Q.E.D lol

Or you just got lucky. All this proves is you avoided it. I'm trying to offer theories as to what might trigger it. A lot of people want to say what WON'T cause you to get banned, but nobody can ever confirm WHAT does exactly. Someone throws out a theory (a THEORY, not a fact) and it's immediately dismissed.

It's dismissed for the reasons given. Wave 4 games have only existed for a month or so, but ban waves have been going on for years.
If some people are just "lucky" then why are they lucky? It still doesn't give us anything usable so we can say "OK, definitely don't do this if you want to avoid a ban", which puts it in the same category as just about every other theory. It doesn't necessarily mean that you're 100% wrong, but if you're right, then the info is of no real use because some people get away with it, and there are clearly other reasons why people get banned because some have been banned even though they haven't played any wave 4 games.
Let's say that we assume your theory is correct, but MS can only detect some people while others get away with it. The exact same thing would apply to ALL other theories that we can't prove 100% are false, making all of those theories pretty useless in real terms.

I'm not saying that Wave 4 is the only cause for the bannings. I just find it odd that Wave 4 games show up and a ban wave follows shortly after. Some people even have stated that MS can tell whether or not you flashed your drive using the PC's power source or the 360's power source. Do we know if this is true? Of course not. But if people can accept that as a possibility, I think it's silly to rule out other things that may be equally as obvious. Obviously they use something to detect modded consoles or people playing back-ups, something new. Is it that hard to believe that Wave 4 could be the key? Otherwise it's just a big coincidence, which is also a possibility.

omg...
There is no modded console that plays online that is safe. There's no such thing. Bans are being done at random. Like a lottery pool...
M$ knows banning ALL consoles is not smart finacially, so they only ban a SMALL % to keep people scared, and do their best to stop modding from growing. How many threads full of people posting their RANDOM info about bans is it going to take for everyone to understand, there is no pattern...and nobody is safe.

You're missing the point though. What is the point of your theory? What use is it to anyone on here? We already know it's not provable as it doesn't affect everyone and therefore it may be 100% false, in fact, there's not a single bit of evidence to back it up other than "wave 4 games appeared and then bans happened shortly afterwards", but that's more likely to be just a coincidence, especially as people that haven't played any wave 4 games have been banned as well.
I'm not having a go at you personally, I'm just thinking "what is the point of even discussing this?" because I could start threads about various different theories and they would all go the same way. I think threads like this fuel the spread of misinformation and I know that's not your intention, but that's what does happen.
