thankfully i haven't hit by the hammer yet, but my friend who bought a new xbox 360 4 weeks ago at best buy got banned.
he just returned it to best buy, got the refund, then bought a new one at the future shop.
i went with him and trust me, those idiots won't even check if the xbox has been opened or not.
all they did was asking "what's the reason for returning?"
and all my friend said was "i just don't like it."
i never imagined it would be that easy.
anyway my buddy's gonna wait for at least 2 more weeks until taking it to the modder... don't even know if it's flashable or not.

it's the easiest way in a sense that it takes 5 minutes driving from the house to best buy, you only need to say "i want to refund this", "i just don't like it".
i can't see any easier method.

there are so many things wrong with what you said. to name a few:
1.Best buy is not the only store that sells xbox 360's
2.(i dont know why this matters) the closest BB is 20 mins away for me
3.You need a receipt/warramty to be able to return your xbox

Thanks for the info exist4u, it may help some peeps on here.
Downside is that you will likely get a unflashable drive.

i'd rather have a brand new unflashable xbox that will probably be flashable in the future than an old banned xbox.
how about you?

According to some other poster one of the firmware guys in the chat said it was impossible to crack the new drives. M$ patched up all the security holes or something.

Im confident they will be able to do it eventually, we may have to go back to the soldering days tho :(

if they are completely un-hackable, maybe that's good sign for us.
maybe ms won't bother or care with old xbox bannings anymore.

I think they will end up banning anyone who has modded firmware or they will try to because the option is to buy a cheap arcade system. Which will have the new drives that at the current time are unhackable. From a business stand point it makes sense. Still piracy will live on some way or another.
